The Feasibility of Leucaena Leucocephala (Ipil-Ipil) Leaves and Musa (Banana) Peels As An Alternative Shoe Polish
The Feasibility of Leucaena Leucocephala (Ipil-Ipil) Leaves and Musa (Banana) Peels As An Alternative Shoe Polish
ABSTRACT: Shoe polish is a liquid, wax, or paste that is used to polish, shine, and water repel leather shoes or boots
in order to extend the life of the footwear as well as restore, maintain, and improve its appearance. The purpose of this
research is to develop and test an alternative organic shoe polish made from Ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels. This
recipe will only use organic ingredients: ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels. Because it is a pandemic, the researcher is
unable to conduct the study on the students at Sacred Heart Academy. The researcher gathered ten households in the
barangay because it is clear that they will benefit from this research as well. A survey was conducted to assess the
physical properties of the product, such as shine, odor, appearance, and economic value. In summary, 57.5 percent
and 42.5 percent of the respondents strongly agree and agree on the properties of alternative shoe polish, respectively.
However, 0% of respondents disapproved of the shoe polish made from Ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels. The
researchers advise using the product as it was found to be effective after the experiment.
I. INTRODUCTION
Balanon (2014) investigated and created an experimention with regards to Shoe Polish made from Banana
Peel extract. The materials and ingredients required for research are very easy to obtain and do not cost a
lot of money. The manufacturing process will be quick as well. It is a low-cost and effective product. The
findings demonstrates that banana peels can do more than just make your shoes shine in the classic physical
comedy slapstick visual gag "slipping on a banana peel."
The purpose of this study is to produce an alternative shoe polish made with the extract of Ipil-ipil and
Banana leaves. The ingredients can be easily seen everywhere, and the researcher will help to lessen the
production of biodegradable garbage. The product will cause lesser the shoe polish made available in the
market.
Today, shoe polish is usually made from a mix of natural and synthetic materials, including naphtha,
turpentine, dyes, and gum Arabic, using straightforward chemical engineering processes.
II. METHODOLOGY
The researcher represents the process and the materials needed in making Ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels
as an alternative to shoe polish. In this chapter, the researcher also discusses the results and findings of the
research work. The researcher gathered all the materials needed for making alternative shoe polish, such as
Ipil-ipil leaves, banana peels, candles, small cauldron, small container, coconut oil, mortar and pestel. The
researcher mashed the two natural ingredients separately, which are the ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels,
after which the researcher got its extract. The researcher heated the cauldron and then melted the candle.
After melting the candle, the researcher put the two extracts into coconut oil and stirred it well to mix all
the ingredients. After a minute, the researcher put it in a small container and let it cool. In order to know
the effectiveness of the said product, the researcher conducted an experiment on 10 households.
III. RESULTS

IV. DISCUSSION
In general there are 57.5 % and 42.5 % of the respondents strongly agree and agree respectively on the
properties of alternative shoe polish. However, there are 0% of the respondents disapproved the shoe polish
made from Ipil-ipil leaves and Banana peels. The result of the tested alternative shoe polish made from Ipil-
ipil leaves and Banana peels was seen to be effective. Almost all of the respondents approve that the product
made from the natural ingredients are possible to be as an alternative shoe polish. In addition, Cabeza et al.,
(2018) conducted the study to inform people that ipil-ipil leaves, banana peel, and baby oil can be used in
other ways, such as being an alternative shoe polish that can really help people in solving their problems
about the dangers of commercial shoe polish. As a result of the research, people's lives will be made easier.
They found out that people can make an alternative shoe polish with the use of organic ingredients including
Ipil-ipil leaves and Banana peelings.
V. CONCLUSIONS
This research was carried out in order to create a shoe polish out of Ipil-ipil leaves and banana peels. A
survey was conducted to evaluate the product's physical properties such as shine, odor, appearance, and
economic value. According to the findings, the researchers could create an alternative shoe polish out of
Ipil-ipil leaves and banana peel. According to the study's findings, all ten (10) households agreed that the
product's efficacy was acceptable. The respondents agreed that we could make shoe polish out of natural
ingredients.
The researchers strongly advise using the product as it has already been proven to be effective. If any future
researchers decide to replicate the product, it was strongly suggested that they find alternative methods of
obtaining the Ipil-ipil leaves extract and banana peel extract as that is where they had the most difficulty.
The researchers also recommend the product because it is made of natural ingredients that are easily visible.
This alternative shoe polish has been found to be effective and well-liked in terms of shine, odor, and
appearance and economic value.
