Teacher’s Activity
 A router is a networking device that forwards data
packets between computer networks.
 Those are the networking tools and devices where we
can connect the Local Area Network (LAN) or Ethernet
cable.
Q: Do you have any question? None ma’am.
 Ok.
 After knowing all the uses and functions of these
networking devices and in order for us to use these to
install and configure a network.
Q: What do we need? We need an Ethernet

Ethernet/LAN cable that you can use to connect these
devices we mentioned earlier to form a network.
 Our topic for today is Data Cable Fabrication..

 We have the following tools and materials.

1.
Crimper

Ma’am, may I give a

try?
Q: What do you think is the use of a crimper?
It is used to cut or
remove the cable
 Yes, Janel? jacket ma’am.

 Very good.
 It can be also used to crimp the RJ45 connector to the
UTP cable.

2.

 Correct
 It is used to strip or remove the sheath of the cable and it
is used to cut the thread inside of the cable.

3.

RJ45 connector

for us to terminate data cable.

Q: What do we usually do with RJ45 connector? Student’s Activity
 Yes, Arjay?
Teacher’s Activity
We usually used it
for us to connect the
LAN cable to our
computer ma’am.
 Very good.
 Registered jack 45 is an eight-wire connector where we
connect UTP cable.

4.

LAN tester
Q: What is the use of a LAN tester? Ma’am.
 Yes, Rael? It is a device used
for testing the
network connection
 Very good. ma’am.

5.
UTP cable
 Most common cable used in computer networking.
Number of twisted-pair wires are often grouped together
and enclosed in a protective sheath to form a cable.
Yes ma’am.
Q: Is everything clear?
None so far ma’am.
Q: Do you have more questions?
 Ok, then let’s figure out what are the two types of cable.
 We have straight through cable and crossed over cable.
Q: What do you think is the use of straight through cable? Ma’am.
 Yes, Edcel? We use straight
cable when we are
connecting 2
different devices.
 Exactly!
Q: How about crossed over cable? What is the use of it? Ma’am.
 Yes, Mark Gil? It is used to connect
two the same
devices ma’am
 Yes! That’s Correct!
Q: Did you get the difference between the two types of Yes ma’am.
cable?
 Since we already know the types of it, let me introduce to
you the wiring schematic of the cable you will perform
later.
 We have Standard A or T568 A and we have Standard B
T568B.
 T568 B color schematic is:

 Yes! That is true!
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
 In short, both end of the cable should be either T568B or
both T568A.
Q: If the straight through cable uses the same wiring
schematics on both end, how about crossed over cable? Ma’am.
What do you think?
 Yes, Jessica? For crossed over
cable ma’am both
ends use different
wiring schematics.
 Exactly!
 Now, we already know what are the uses of LAN cable,
what are the tools needed in making LAN cable, the
difference between the two types of a cable and the
proper wiring schematic of it.
 Do you want to know how to make a LAN cable or
Ethernet cable? Yes ma’am.

 Then I will provide the steps on category 5 data cable

fabrication process and you will try to perform it in the
class.
