EXPERIMENT NO.

01: STUDY OF DOMESTIC REFRIGERATOR

AIM: - 1) To evaluate the cooling capacity in Watts & in Tons of the system.
2) To evaluate actual & theoretical COP of Vapour Compression Cycle.
3) To plot the actual Refrigeration Cycle on P-H Chart.
4) To study the various components and controls used in Vapour Compression
Cycle.

Operating Procedure
1. Put the machine in the proper position where its level is horizontal and it
is well ventilated.
2. Give 230 Volts, 50 Hz, and 1 phase supply to the unit.
3. The electrical point should have a MCB of 16 Amps rating.
4. Ensure proper earthling.
5. Start the compressor and heater by putting switch ON.
6. Adjust the heater dimmer such that cabinet temperature maintains at 24
deg. Celsius.

T1 = Temperature of Refrigerant after compressor.
T2 = Temperature of Refrigerant after condenser.
T3 = Temperature of Refrigerant after expansion valve.
T4 = Temperature of Refrigerant after evaporator.
Actual Refrigeration effect = (10×3600) / (t×3200) kW
t = Time for 10 pulses of Heater energy meter

Compressor Work = (10×3600) / (t×3200) kW

t = Time for 10 pulses of compressor energy meter
