DSEA Technical Note

#040: Updated HQ RIP Plug-in Installer

Produced by: Dainippon Screen Engineering of America (DSEA) January 27, 2000

This Technical Note provides the instructions to install the HQ RIP device drivers separately
from the plug-ins.

The device plug-ins and device drivers for the HQ-PM, HQ-PC, and HQ-NT RIPs will be
installed separately for all devices used with the v5.1r2 HQ RIP. They also will be installed
separately for the PT-R8000 v5.1.1 when used with the v5.0 HQ RIP. The steps to install the
plug-in are the same as those provided in the installation guides; therefore, please refer to the
guides for installation instructions. After you install the plug-in, you must install the device
drivers. The steps to install the PCI FPIF driver and the QLogic SCSI driver are provided below.

NOTE: If you already have a QLogic SCSI driver installed on your system by
another application, do not reinstall the SCSI driver, as doing so can cause
serious system problems.

Installing a Device Driver

The PCI FPIF and QLogic SCSI drivers are provided either on the HQ RIP CD-ROM or on a
separate diskette. Check to see if your drivers are on the CD-ROM or diskette, then follow the
applicable instructions.

1. First, check the version number of the FPIF board installed in your computer (Rev. 1.0,
Rev. 1.1, or Rev. 1.2).

2. Turn on the computer, if necessary.
