Ch-9 Macromedia Flash Notes

Macromedia Flash is animation software developed by Adobe Systems that allows users to create vector graphics, animations, and interactive content. It has tools for drawing, text, and media embedding. The Flash workspace contains a property inspector, tools panel, timeline, stage, layers, frames, and playhead. Common tools include selection, line, pen, text, shape, and eraser tools. Animations can be created using frame-by-frame or tweening techniques. Symbols and instances allow reusing drawings. Files are saved as .fla source files or exported as .swf Flash player files.

vector graphics and animation.

WHAT IS MACROMEDIA FLASH ?

Flash is an animation software developed by Adobe Systems since Adobe

acquired Macromedia. The program also offers support for raster graphics,
rich text, audio and video embedding, and Action Script scripting.

COMPONENTS OF FLASH WINDOW

The workspace window in flash contains the following:

1. Property inspector: displays the properties of the current flash
document. 2. Tools panel: contains tools used for various purposes like
drawing, selection .
3. Timeline: fixed at the top of every object in a workplace. 4. Menu bar:
provides commands to control over all functions like-opening, closing etc.
5. Stage: it is basically the area where we create animations. By default the
stage size is 550x400 pixels.
6. Layers: Layers can be inserted in a scene.
7. Frame: It is a small rectangular bar on the timeline.
8. Playhead: It moves on the frames to play the movie.

Tools Panel: The tools for drawing and painting are placed in Tools Panel. By
default it is positioned on the left side of the Flash window.

TOOLS
Line Tool: Line tool helps in drawing the shapes using line tool. Pen Tool: The
purpose of pen tool is to draw paths as straight lines or smooth or flowing.
Text Tool: The text tool is used to type the text on the stage. You can change
the style, size and color of the text.
Oval Tool: The oval tool is used to make circular figures.
Rectangle Tool: The rectangle tool is used to draw rectangular shapes.
Polystar: The Polystar tool is used to draw polygons and stars on the screen.
This is available in Rectangle option.
Pencil: The Pencil tool in flash provides you the facility to draw your
imagination on the stage.
Paint Bucket: The Paint Bucket tool is used to fill the color in the enclosed
areas.
Ink Bottle: This tool is used to change the color of the lines or stroke.
Eraser: This tool is exactly the same as you use eraser to remove the text or
drawings on your sheet.
Zoom: This tools will help you maximize or minimize the stage. Selection
Tool: To move the object on the stage or to change the properties of an image
you can use this tool.
Sub selection Tool: To reshape or to change the properties of an image you
can use this tool.
Lasso Tool: Lasso tool will help you to cut the portion of the object which you
can paste any number of times on the stage.

Animation in Flash
Frame by frame :- we move or modify objects one frame at a time. Frame by
frame animation is time consuming.
Tweening : Tweening is much more fun and much easier than frame by frame
animation.
Flash offers two types of tweening : 1) Motion tween 2)Shape
tween Motion tween
It is used to create a moving effect in a movie where an object move from one
position to another.
Shape Tween
We can change one shape into another shape by shape tween.

Symbols
Symbols are the drawings or objects which are reusable. Only once you need
to create and you can use them any number of times in your animation.
Symbols will help you to make your animations faster and lighter i.e. they can
be downloaded faster.
In Flash, three types of symbols are available:
• Movie Clip
• Button
• Graphics
Instances
The copy of the symbol is known as the Instance of the symbol. The symbols
are stored in the library that is why we can use them many times.

File Types
1. Source Files (.fla)
This is the source Flash movie that has an extension .fla.
2. Exported Files (.swf) This is a flash player file which we can simply export
a .swf file “Flash Player File”.
