implementing, assessing and modifying the
curriculum.
▪TEACHERS are essential pillars in the teaching
process with their knowledge, skills and experiences
they are central to any curriculum improvement
effort.
ROLE OF A TEACHER IN CURRICULUM
DEVELOPMENT
▪ How can teacher participate in curriculum
development?
▪Teachers know their students’ needs better than
others involved in curriculum process. They can
provide insights into the types of materials, activities
and specific skills that need to be included in the
curriculum.
ROLE OF A TEACHER IN CURRICULUM
DEVELOPMENT
▪ MAKER. Teacher writes a curriculum daily through lesson plan or an
early plan. They addresses the goals, needs interest of learners by
creating experiences where the student learn better.
▪ DEVELOPER. The teachers as a curriculum developer designs,
enriches and modifies the curriculum suit the learners
characteristics.
▪ IMPLEMENTER. Teacher gives life to the written materials. Its role
has shift from learning to doing such as guiding, facilitating and
directing activities.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
PLANNING
A. ACTIVE LEARNING
◦ Curriculum is content, but when contextualized, it comes alive for students.
The role of teachers in the curriculum process is to help students develop an
engaged relationship with the content.
Active learning will increase the focus and retention of the curriculum, resulting in an
exciting learning environment.
Teachers build lessons that include simulations, experiments, case studies and
activities to deliver curriculum. This interactive approach intertwines curriculum and
practical experiences that immerse students in learning. The curriculum process
provides opportunity for teachers to be creative and put their unique stamp on the
classroom experience.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
PLANNING
B. MULTICULTURALISM
❖ During the curriculum planning, teachers use a prescribed curriculum to
build lessons that have global impact.
❖ The intentionality of building inclusion helps dispel stereotypes and to
encourage students to look favorably upon diverse groups.
❖ If district –issued books or materials do not highlight historically
underrepresented groups, teachers can provide supplemental materials
during curriculum process.
❖ Curriculum process enables teachers to consider how they can best
deliver lessons that will reach learners.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
PLANNING
C. EQUITY-MINDED INSTRUCTION
❖ Well-intended curriculum cannot always meet the needs of all learned
in the classroom. Teacher are the experts, when it comes to
understanding the individualize needs of each students.
❖ Differentiated or adaptive instruction is critical so that it will ensure that
each student will maximize their potential.
❖ Teacher may group students by interest to encourage collaborative
learning or to assess students progress so that the teacher can
determine the pace of curriculum delivery.
❖ Teachers may also create groups with varied levels of students
achievement to encourage collaborative learning and success.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
PLANNING
C. INCORPORATING STUDENTS’ CHOICE
❖Teachers consider how they can incorporate student
choice into classroom learning.
❖ Teachers can help student to connect to content to
an individualized plan that reflect a career interest.
❖ Providing a wide variety of learning option peaks to
the need of all students and optimize learning
potential.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
IMPLEMENTATION
❖Teachers/ educators are the major pillars in the
teaching and learning process.
❖ They are responsible for introducing the curriculum
in the classroom and outside the classroom as well.
❖ A teacher does more than just implement a
curriculum, they knows best what the curriculum
should look like.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN CURRICULUM
IMPLEMENTATION
❖ Teachers know their students better than others
involved in the curriculum process. While the state
dictates the skills covered by the curriculum, a
teacher can provide insight into the types of
materials, activities and specific skills that need to be
included.
❖ A strong curriculum is designed to allow a teacher to
be flexible to add a few personalized components,
from a section of activities.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
❖ Schools evaluate their curricula to ensure they are continuing
to meet students’ needs.
❖ The evaluation process encompasses several areas, including
student understanding of main concepts, mastery of
established academic goals and objectives, and standardized
assessments.
❖ Classroom teachers have first-hand knowledge of instructional
methods and thus are the best –qualified to assess a
curriculum’s effectiveness in utilizing the best learning
strategies for students success.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
1. FUNCTION
▪ The teacher is qualified to judge if a curriculum provides
appropriate instruction at three levels of differentiation:
remedial, instructional and advanced.
▪ A curriculum should include techniques and strategies for
teachers to help students at their current academic level.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
2. SIGNIFICANCE
▪ Teachers should be consulted about curriculum evaluation
because they are ultimately responsible for translating its
objectives into specific lessons.
▪ teachers are ethically and legally bound to routinely assess
students and report their progress. A curriculum should help
teachers do this by providing a realistic set of goals and
suggested techniques to assist students at all ability levels.
▪ They can provide feedback based on their direct interaction
with students.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
3. FEATURES
◦ Assessment data can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a
curriculum.
◦ Informal assessments, as well as a standardized tests given at
the end of the academic year, yield a valuable information
about students understanding of the concepts they have been
taught.
◦ Students progress usually indicates an appropriate alignment
of curriculum standards and assessment.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
4. EFFECTS
◦ A teacher’s role in curriculum evaluation affects the school’s
choice of textbooks, as well as the adoption of special
programs to augment educational standards.
◦ They examine the curriculum objectives to determine the
relevance of the materials. If a great disparity exists, school
officials must reassess their programs or consider editing or
remapping the curriculum to best meet the students’ needs.
ROLE OF TEACHERS IN EVALUATING
5 . Expert insights
◦ Overtime, teachers gain insight to the effectiveness of a
curriculum to their students’ long term academic development.
◦ Thus, they should recognize an effective curriculum as one
composed of student-centered methods that emphasizes the
teacher as facilitator.
◦ Teachers as curriculum evaluators know that -no matter what
grade level they teach- mastery can be measured through
informal observation as well as tests.
