Course Description

The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts and principles of patterns and algebra (sequences, series, polynomials,
polynomial equations, and polynomial functions); geometry (circles and coordinate geometry); and statistics and probability (combinatorics
and probability, and measures of position) as applied - using appropriate technology - in critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning,
communicating, making connections, representations, and decisions in real life. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply
algebraic, geometric analysis, and statistics into everyday life and activities. Students will be expected to learn and perform very complex
algebraic, geometric reasoning, and statistics. Topics will be combined from both fields, with emphasis on real-world examples and logical
reasoning. With the different activities provided in every module, the students find this material engaging and challenging as it develops their
critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND CLASS POLICIES
Course At the end of grade 10, the learner demonstrates understanding and appreciation of key concepts and skills involving numbers and number sense
Requirements (sets and real numbers); measurement (conversion of units); patterns and algebra (linear equations and inequalities in one and two variables, linear
functions, systems of linear equations, and inequalities in two variables, exponents and radicals, quadratic equations, inequalities, functions,
polynomials, and polynomial equations and functions); geometry (polygons, axiomatic structure of geometry, triangle congruence, inequality and
similarity, and basic trigonometry);statistics and probability (measures of central tendency, variability and position; combinatorics and probability) as
applied - using appropriate technology - in critical thinking, problem solving, communicating, reasoning, making connections, representations, and
decisions in real life.
Class Policies ● Students will be on time and ready to learn at the start of every class.
● Students will be respectful of each-other, the teacher, and the classroom environment.
● Cheating will never be tolerated. Cheating can and will cause an F grade (0%) on the assignment in question.
● Cellular phones, cameras, and other recording devices will never be out for any reason in class unless pre-approved by the teacher.
● Dress code standards will be maintained at all times.
● Bathroom trips will be kept to a minimum, and will not take place during the first 15 minutes of class.
● Unless there is a medical emergency there are no make-up mid-term exams. Instead the final exam for the semester is worth twice as much.
● Make-up final exams will only be considered on a case by case basis with a written petition from the student and parent.
● Please conduct yourself politely, disruptive behavior is not allowed.
● Please feel free to ask questions at any time. There are no bad questions. Rules may be added or changed based on need or school rules.
