IDEAL GAS LAW: BUILD YOUR OWN TEMPERATURE SCALE

The ideal gas law is an ideal gas state equation that relates to pressure, volume, gas
amount, and temperature. Although the law defines the nature of a hypothetical gas, it
quantifies the nature of actual gases in many cases. In this simulation, we will be challenged
with determining the unique temperature scale by assigning the right temperature to different
reference points. The relationship between the pressure, temperature, and volume of an ideal
gas sealed in a glass jar should also be established. After the simulation, we are supposed to
describe temperature and absolute zero's physical definition and learn about the relationship
between gas pressure, volume, and temperature using gas thermometry.

I was instructed to go to the temperature display at the start of the simulation to create
my temperature scale, specifically the Aw (Awesome) scale. By selecting the correct
temperature scale at various reference points, namely the boiling water temperature, room
temperature, temperature of the ice water, boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen, and
temperature of absolute zero.

AN ARBITRARY TEMPERATURE SCALE

Boiling water temperature 746.4Aw

Room temperature 586Aw

Ice water temperature 546.3Aw

Liquid nitrogen boiling temperature 154Aw

Absolute zero temperature 0Aw

In addition, I was introduced to this specific laboratory equipment to determine the
relationship between the pressure, temperature, and volume of an ideal gas sealed in a glass
jar, explaining the function of each part of it.

Gas’s temperature and pressure scale

Tap

Gas tank The burner

The gas tank is responsible for the release of gas' molecules inside the glass jar. The
constant release can cause higher pressure within the glass jar as the glass jar's volume
capacity will not handle such high amounts of gas' molecules. The burner will cause to
increase the temperature of the glass jar. The higher the temperature, the higher the pressure
because the gas molecules will move rapidly and increase the kinetic energy in high
temperatures and lead to higher pressure. The tap is to be used if we wanted to decrease the'
molecules inside the glass jar. Lastly, the Gas's temperature and pressure scale can see how
much temperature is applied and the pressure inside the glass jar.
Overall, the ideal gas law is concerned with how molecules are being affected by
altering the pressure, temperature, and volume. These simulation experiences allow me to
allocate more relevant knowledge and understanding of the ideal gas law. Through
observation and analysis of things done in this simulation, I can now describe temperature
and absolute zero's physical definition. Whereas the temperature is a measure of an object or
substance's warmth or cold regarding a particular standard value. Absolute zero is the lowest
theoretically possible temperature at which the movement of heat-constituting particles would
be minimal.
