MIDTERM EXAM Univ.

Physics_Electricity- Magnetism- Oct 08- 2015

Duration: 90 minutes. No electronic devices are allowed (laptops, ipads,
tablets, smart phones), except calculators and paper documents.

1. If D= (2y2+z)ax+ 4xyay+ xaz [C/m2] , find:

a/ the volume charge density at (-1, 0, 3)
b/ the flux through the cube defined by 0≤ x ≤1, 0≤ y ≤1, 0≤ z ≤1
c/ the total charge enclosed by the cube

2. A charge distribution in free space has ρv= 2rs [nC/m3] for 0≤ rs ≤10 m and
zero otherwise. Determine E at rs = 2 m and rs = 12 m.

3. An electric potential field is produced by point charges 1 μC and 4 μC

located at (-2, 1, 5) and (1, 3, -1), respectively. Find the energy stored in the
field ?

4. For a spherical charge distribution:

ϱv= ϱo(a2- r2), r<a
= 0, r>a
a/. Find E and V for r≥ a
b/. Find E and V for r ≤a
c/. Find the total charge
d/. Show that E is maximum when r= 0.145 a

5. A circular disk of radius a carries charge ϱs=(1/rc) [C/m2] (using cyl.

coordinates). Calculate the potential at P(0, 0, h)
