In order to express thoughts, ideas, or emotions, creative dance uses
improvised movements and includes the generation and manipulation of movements
using the elements of dance. This is true especially if the dance is to be performed in
special occasions.
Body parts and actions – it is the responsibility of the dancer to allow and command
every inch of his body to function or move while dancing. Every detail is important for
the aesthetic quality of the dance. In every genre of creative dance, there is a required
amount of either stiffness, or flexibility to employ in every body part and action.
Example, in ballet, one has to be extremely flexible in order to dance gracefully the
movements, while in Hip hop, the dancer must employ a different technique to be
called a great hip hop dancer.
Body shapes – body shape is also important. This is the overall appearance of a
dancer. Note that the quality and grace of the dancer does not rely on his/her physical
appearance or body shape, it’s all in the implementation, extension and the likes.
Directions and pathways – the dancer must be able to lead his/her body correctly to
the correct pathway and direction. This is always true especially when dancing as a
group, to avoid collisions and untoward incidents.
Time – There are presentations that may last for several minutes to a few hours. It is
important that a dancer is physically fit in order to carry on a presentation.
