Source Data Elements Output Stratification Categories
Prevalence (% and sample size) of each drug utlization
Rx data from:Selected Drug Classes calculated as: Same Stratifications as Above
BCBS Anti-hypertensive (# of people with a filled Rx)
and ace-inhibitors (total # of people in the stratified category)
Express Scripts beta-blockers
others
Cholesterol-lowering
Antidepressants
Diabetes
Insulin Note: Who should be included in the denominator? If it's just the
others people in the Rx database, then it would only be restricted to
those who have filled an Rx. So, it should probably be all the
people who have insurance coverage (from the health claims
database).

Prevalence (% and sample size) of each drug utlization

among those with a diagnosed condition calculated as:
(# of people with a filled Rx)
(total # of people with the corresponding diagnosis)

Note: this may or may not require merging of the Rx data with
the health claims data.
Questions to consider:
1. is every person in the Rx database also in the health claims database?
2. is it possible that a person fills an Rx but does not have a diagnosis?
If the answer to either one of these questions is yes, then
merging of the datasets is required to obtain an accurate
estimate.

Odds Ratios and 95% Cis

(within stratification categories)
Note: Calculation of odds ratios will require merging of the
Rx and health claims datasets.
