DAY 3
THE
ISMUN
JOURNAL
Amity International School, Pushp Vihar
message from our revered
CHAIRPERSON
MA'AM
PRINCIPAL
MA'AM
The ability of Amitians to showcase themselves as confident and vigilant delegates has
made ISMUN'22 a great success. Our Chairperson Ma’am and Founder President Sir’s
vision of shaping Amitians as young, smart and responsible diplomats that are leaders in
their fields was brought to life. Even after facing the drawbacks of the pandemic,
ISMUN’22 was conducted with the same enthusiasm and pride presented by each member
of the organising committee, the Executive Board, InternationaI Press and the delegates.
This journey has been momentous, and we continue to strive to keep that up for the
coming years. I am utterly proud of my students who conducted the conference in the
most commendable manner possible.
Words of encouragement

Our beloved Chairperson ma’am has provided her Amitians with numerous opportunities to
grow and thrive as successful and respectful individuals, the Model United Nations circuit
being just one of them. I would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to all my young
delegates, of whom I am ever so proud, for flourishing over the course of this three day
conference. I hope they will take away fruitful lessons like salient leadership skills from
ISMUN 2022, which they will carry with them throughout their entire lives.
A message from
OVEE CHACHAD
CHAIRPERSON, UNHRC
My MUN journey is one that I consider completely personally developing which has shaped and
enhanced my personality immensely. It all started with JAMUN in 2015 when I was a tiny 5th
grader, and being a delegate in a committee of about 100 others, what I realised was the work of
an Executive Board must be exhausting. But coming to the level of being the Secretary General of
ISMUN, I have come across every sphere of MUNs, from diplomacy, foreign policy, committee
impact to basic analysis. Primarily what I have taken from this experience is that at the end of the
committee, awards matter but what matters more is what you take from the conference. I am
extremely grateful to Chairperson ma’am for providing us with such an enriching platform, which
not only empowers delegates from 5th to 11th grade, but also turns the Executive board
members into leaders.
A message from
HRIDYANSH YADAV
CHAIRPERSON, UNGA
Model UN conferences have always been a great learning experience, and I have always taken
away something or the other, both as a delegate and as a member of the Executive Board. I would
like to thank Our respected Chairperson Ma’am and our Respected Principal Ma'am for ensuring
that these conferences are conducted annually so that students of all age groups can develop
critical thinking, situational analysis, and leadership, among countless other abilities. MUNs have
helped shape me as a person and have eventually made me a more inquisitive and sociable
person.
A message from
ADITYA HINOGRANI
CHAIRPERSON, UNSC
From participating in ISMUN five years ago in 8th grade to serving as the Director General of the
conference in my final year in this school, my MUN journey has been a Rollercoaster ride. ISMUN
& JAMUN characterize the three aspects which are key to an Amity education: Curiosity, Passion &
Intellect. Speech & Debate have always formed a key part of my identity as a person. I will remain
eternally grateful to our honorable Chairperson ma'am along with our Principal ma'am for
granting us the opportunity to develop holistically as individuals by discovering our true
capabilities.

unendurable actions. Yet, there were several who chose to stand for the real victor. It would have
been a shrewder decision if the countries standing by the invaders chose to stand with the truth and
the ones who call themselves ‘neutral’ would be gutsy enough to take accurate stance. I strongly
believe that though Russia has been successful in destroying Ukraine’s economy, it overlooked its
own. This would discourage such tenacious nations to take decisions which partition the world.
Countries such as India which stand unbiased must realize that their own students reside in the
nation which is being duped. However, they chose to prioritize their image in the world and future
self-seeking benefits. All in all, we, as citizens of one world, must stand united against any nation that
attempts to split the world.
UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
OPINIONATED EDITORIAL
NAMYA JAIN
Most of the committee blamed Chinese and Russian governments for the hacking, abduction, and
murder. Though the most like answers, these suspicions seemed slightly unoriginal to me. That
was when the Delegate of Kenya revealed one of my favourite theories of the day. Kenya believed
that the UK had been secretly working with Russia and planted themselves as the next potential
target to avoid suspicion. Though slightly unlikely, I enjoyed this creative theory as it went against
the general opinion of the committee.
The delegates of Hong Kong and Pakistan had an entertaining debate on the validity of the latter’s
claims. I found this back-and-forth to be quite amusing and agreed with the Delegate of Hong
Kong’s reasonings.
A highlight of the committee for me was the Russian Presidential Statement where the delegate
addressed the Council in Vladimir Putin’s accent and gloriously proclaimed, “We will still be the
Motherland, and I will still be Putin.” This enthusiastic claim amused the tense committee, and I
greatly enjoyed the delegate’s creative reasoning for Russia’s presence in the UNHRC. The way in
which Russia’s speech was delivered was impressive, especially considering the fraught situation
of the ‘Motherland’.
Overall, I found the third day of the UNHRC an interesting rollercoaster, perhaps and
underwhelming one at first, but certainly not one without a hilarious redemption.

The South China Sea Crisis: Rising Tensions
Shambhavi Sharma 9B
The south China sea crisis, the one China policy and the prospect of unification has played a
pivotal role in influencing political and cultural similarities and boundaries. It has been a subject
of inspection, giving rise to contrasting opinions expressed by different countries.
The "One Country, two systems" policy introduced by Xi - Jinping has been implemented as the
One China policy, an exceptional political system. It has raised comparatively less barriers in the
government of the country, a harbinger of positive change. The deepening political and cultural
similarities stand as a carrier of unification. The PRC has pledged peaceful growth of ROC ties
and has kept their promises.
On 23rd of May, the president of the United States,‘Joe Biden’ announced that the U.S would
”intervene militarily” if the PRC dominates the ROC. This would mean the revocation of the One
China policy on the behalf of the U.S.A but the white house has assured the PRC that there
would be no such severing of ties. The United States involvement will significantly complicate
the situation.
Xi- Jinping encourages peaceful unification and warns that the Chinese people have a “glorious
tradition” of opposing separation. In conclusion, unification is the most favourable option at
hand.
The day had arrived, the beginning of the end. The GSLs began, putting the committee in motion. The
Delegate of Libya articulated themselves in an overall coherent. They mentioned about their country’s state
due to climate change, as well as bringing forward solutions to this problem.
Several delegates mentioned their actions on the climate change matter. Though repetitive, they struck the
mark of relevance. As the proceedings intensified, the PSLs were put into the spotlight. They began mostly
with blaming Vietnam about their setbacks, but then transitioned their blamings towards China.
The Delegate of China stated, “We do not care.” They did not care about the carbon emissions that they
produce. In short, they do not have any concerns towards the environment. This statement led to an uproar
in the committee, which was very much valid.
the fact that all the journalists received well-evaluated answers during the Press Release.
Recently there was a Press Conference for the parties: BJP and Congress. Many controversial
answers were given. The Press asked questions to which no clear answers were given. The
question being “(to Mulayam Singh Yadav) You stated Shah Jahan is a Hero, how would you
support your statement?”, to which he replied, “He has done so many great things and because
of him you can see so many beautiful monuments in India”, to which I think we deserve a better
answer as Shah Jahan did great things, but not all of them were in the right path.
On another note, neither BJP nor Congress
addressed the Kashmir Conflict. They were
questioned as to why they haven’t addressed
the conflict yet, to which they gave a very blunt
answer saying that they were stuck with other
situations, but is that really a good enough
reason? In my opinion, I feel the conflict
deserves more recognition, or at the very least
could be addressed.
Moving onto bigger news, the PM had resigned
earlier today, which gave Congress the upper
hand, and left the country under presidential
rule and Amit Shah in power. Cartoon by Abhigya Sharma 10-C
Going back to the Kashmir conflict, a politician from BJP was questioned as to why it
wasn’t addressed, and their answer being “We are not ignoring the situation. When we
were in power, the situation was better handled. But now with Congress in power, the
situation has only heated up”; here in this statement, you can see that even though the
question was addressed with respect to the Kashmir conflict, they brought up the feud
with Congress.
Now that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has resigned, leaving Congress in power, I
hope that we can see change in the positive way.
INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE
“Don’t let yourself distract you”
The IPL Community had received some unfortunate news in the last hour. During the India tour
of England series, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah were seriously injured. Their doctors said
that they are not in the condition to play in the upcoming championship.
The BCCI wants us to replace them as they were part of the playing 11. Dinesh Kartik refuses to
replace Rishabh Pant as he is on a vacation.
In my opinion, Shreyas Iyer should replace Rishabh. The reason its Iyer instead of someone like
Deepak Hooda, is because Hooda is an all-rounder, meaning that they might not show their full
potential in replacing a batsman like Rishabh. Whereas Shreyas is a batsman, which means he
can show his full potential while batting. Shreyas will also be replacing Suryakumar Yadav as the
4th Batsman.
Harshal Patel will be replacing Jasprit Bumrah as Bumrah is a fast-paced bowler whereas
Harshal is a slow-paced bowler. The championship is being held in Australia. Australia has green
and dry pitch. Slow balls work the best in green and dry pitches.
Considering all my statements, this would be my ideal team for the championship:
As a young woman myself, I was thrilled to walk into the committee this morning, I looked
forward to see how delegates would deliberate over the political position of women. The
committee started with the general speakers list speeches, all delegates came forward to
present their countries stance on the agenda and what their countries have done till now for
supporting women. It was crystal clear from listening to all speeches that delegates with
such broad thinking capacities and present-day views would be great leaders one day. Every
woman deserves to live life with her rules and according to her wishes, for she has done no
crime being a woman/girl.
Soon a moderated caucus started, with the topic- access to education to attain political
position. This hit home, being a female student, I wanted to be reassured that I had the
chance to lead the country one day if I wish to. “Education and politics are interrelated”, said
the delegate of Dominic Republic to start a hot debate. Observing the committee, I heard
about all kinds of programs and initiatives started by different countries, and how education
plays a vital role for women to be aware of their political rights. According to the delegates
of Mexico, Latvia,
Armenia and others the lack of education in the women
community has made them oblivious to the wide range of
political positions they can hold. It was also disappointing to
hear the numbers of literacy rates of girls in some countries,
as they were way less that that of boys but the ray of hope
in me kept glowing because of the out of the box solutions
the delegates provided for the issue at hand. There were
instances in the committee where I got literal goosebumps,
for example when the delegate of Mexico commented
“feminism isn’t about making women strong, women are
already strong”, it was moments like these where I was able
to hope that one day I, a woman, will hold a position in
politics and perhaps lead a nation.
