Aramco Standard Notes

This document provides information on various construction materials and standards: - Brittle materials like bone, cast iron, ceramic and concrete break with little deformation when stressed and absorb relatively little energy prior to fracture. Ductile materials have more plasticity. - The minimum rebar spacing in slabs and bridges is less than 1 1/6 diameter of the steel. - ASTM C1602 is the standard for adding water to hydraulic concrete mixes. Using 350-370kg of cement can achieve 4000psi compressive strength. - The maximum TDS in water for curing concrete is 1000ppm. The non-shrink cementitious grout PIP-STS-03600 has a compressive strength

Brittle material
A material is brittle if, when subjected to stress, it breaks with little elastic deformation and without significant
plastic deformation. Brittle materials absorb relatively little energy prior to fracture, even those of high strength.
Breaking is often accompanied by a snapping sound.
examples
