Module 9 Magnetic Field

1. The document outlines a lesson plan on magnetic fields that focuses on Ampere's law and Biot-Savart law. 2. Students will learn how to calculate the magnetic field produced by current-carrying wires using these laws, as well as watch explanatory videos. 3. The lesson will involve students reading about magnetic fields, answering checkpoint questions, working on practice problems, and discussing applications of Ampere's and Biot-Savart's laws.

UNIT 1: ELECTRICITY A& MAGNETISM

MODULE 9: The Magnetic Field

Learning Competencies (Objectives:):
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Explain Biot-Savart law based on its importance in magnetism;
2. Calculate the following:
a. Force per length on a current carrying wire due to the magnetic field produces by other current-carrying
wires;
b. Magnetic field for highly symmetric current configurations using Ampere’s law.

LESSON PROPER
GENYO
Objectives:
1. Explain Ampere’s law based on its importance in magnetism;
2. Calculate the magnetic field due to one or more straight wire conductors using superposition principle.
Engage: The students will watch a video about the magnetic field of a straight current carrying wire.
Explore: The students will read and study magnetic field on pp. 108- 111.
Explain:
Checkpoint:
1. What is stated in Ampere’s law?
2. What formula are you going to use in solving word problems involving magnetic field of a straight conductor?
Extend:
Reflect Upon:
Around every magnetic pole is a magnetic field where the influence of the pole is evident. Similarly, influential
people are surrounded by other people who believe in them.
In what ways have you influences other people in terms of their beliefs or perceptions in life? On the other hand, in
what was have you been influenced by other people?
Evaluate: The students will answer the following:
A. WHILSF p.108 (Discuss the importance of Ampere’s law to the study of electromagnetism.)
B. WHILSF p.112 ( Problem Solving)
ZOOM
A. Engage
The students will watch a video about the magnetic field along the axis of circular current loop.
B. Explore
1. Place an insulated circuit loop with a bare portion in between south and north
poles as shown on the figure to the right. Note that at first, the circuit loop should
still be open.
2. Close the circuit loop by connecting both ends of the circuit to the battery.
Recall that current flows from the positive to the negative terminal of the battery.

C. Explain
1. What will happen if the arrangement of the poles is interchanged?
2. If the circuit connection to the battery is reversed, what will be the direction of movement of the wire ?
D. Extend
Try This!
Two parallel conductors are 5cm apart and carry currents of 8A and 4A in the same direction. Compute the force
between the two conductors for every meter of the length of a wire.
E. Evaluate
The students will answer the following:
A. Discuss the importance of Biot-Savart’s law to the study of electromagnetism.
B. WHILSF, pp. 113 and 116 (Problem Solving)
