Installing the Expansion Enclosure

Rack Placement

Before installing the new expansion enclosure, determine its placement within the
rack.

 Install the expansion enclosure in the next available 2U space directly above
the base enclosure or the last expansion enclosure in the system.

Most cabinets mark 1U increments with horizontal lines or small holes in the
channels.

Remove the Filler Panel

In most cases, the front space into which you will install the enclosure is covered by
a filler panel attached to the latch brackets. If one or more filler panels cover the
space where you want to install the enclosure, remove each panel.

 Use a flatblade screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the latch brackets.

Install the Rails

The procedure is the same for both the left and right rail. You can install the rails
into either a square or round hole rack. Position the rail end piece so the label

FRONT is located at the front of the rack and facing towards the inside of the rack,
while orienting the rear of the rail to align level with the holes on the rear of the
rack.

1. From the rear of the rack, pull the rail straight back until the latch is locked.
2. To install the front end piece of the rail, press the blue latch release button
until the latch rotates open.
3. Pull the rail forward until the pins slide into the holes on the front of the rack,
then release the latch to secure the rail.

Install the Enclosure on the Rails

Caution: The enclosure is heavy and should

be installed by two people. To avoid personal
injury and/or damage to the equipment, do not
attempt to lift and install the enclosure into a
rack without a mechanical lift and/or help from
another person.

Add an Expansion Enclosure

 Lift the expansion enclosure and, from the front of the rack, slide the
expansion enclosure onto the rails.
 Push the expansion enclosure into the rack until the slam latches engage and
lock the system into the rack.

If securing the system for shipment in the rack or in other unstable

environments, locate the hard mount captive screw under each latch and
tighten using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Installing Drives

If the drives shipped separately from the enclosure, install them in the enclosure
now. The expansion enclosure must be populated with SAS SSD/Flash 1 WPD
drives.

 Attach an ESD wristband to your wrist and the enclosure in which you are
installing the drive.
 Align the drive with the guides in the slot.
 With the drive carrier latch fully open, gently push the drive into the slot.
 Push on the orange latch tab until the drive is seated in the slot.
 Push the handle down to engage the latch.

Cable the Expansion Enclosure to the Base Enclosure

Follow these guidelines when cabling the base enclosure appliance to ensure the
system functions correctly.

Apply cable labels at each end of the following cables:

 Node to first expansion enclosure
 Node to last expansion enclosure

A ports are output ports and B ports are input ports. Output ports connect to input
ports to transfer information.

Ports on both the base enclosure and LCCs are labeled using letters (A,B). This is
what you will see looking at the rear of the enclosure. What you are connecting is
the internal bus to the expansion enclosure. Port A is Bus 0 and Port B is Bus 1.

 Node A SAS Port B to LCC A Port A

 Node B SAS Port B to LCC B Port A
 Node A SAS Port A to LCC B Port B
 Node B SAS Port A to LCC A Port B

Adding a Appliance to a PowerStore T Cluster

Add the Appliance

PowerStore T configurations support up to four appliances in a cluster. This

procedure assumes the appliance is cabled, powered on, and is in the
Unconfigured state.

1. Log into the cluster and go to the Hardware page.

2. Check the box next to the new appliance.
The appliance that you are adding must be a PowerStore T. The mixing of
appliance types, such as PowerStore T with PowerStore X, is not supported.
3. Click Add to launch the Add Appliance page.
4. From the Add Appliance page, check the radio button next to the new
appliance, verify the Service Tag and that the status is Unconfigured.
5. Select Next.

The example shows a single appliance cluster called TwoApplianceCluster-

appliance-1. This is the Primary appliance as it was the first appliance configured
in the cluster. This appliance displays a Mode of Unified. Note that the cluster has
to be in a Healthy state before the new appliance can be added.

Add an Appliance to a PowerStore T Cluster

Add the Networks

Each appliance must have Management and Storage networks configured.

Management networks connect the cluster to management services such as DNS,

NTP, and vCenter. The management network also enables external clients to
access the cluster.

The Storage network connects the cluster to an existing storage network or

establishes a new network within the cluster. It also enables external clients to
access the storage in the cluster.

Both the Management and Storage networks require at least three IP addresses.

Validate the Configuration

Once the network IP addresses are completed, select Next to validate the
configuration. If issues are found, they appear in the Validate the Configuration
page. Read any messages that appear. These messages provide a summary of
the issue and remediation if possible. Warning messages allow the configuration
process to continue. If Critical or Error messages appear, they must be resolved
before the appliance can be added.

In the example the configuration process can continue even though two Warning
messages are displayed.
