STIPEND (PM) PREPARATION STRATEGY

First of all the CV that you prepare should contain your
20000 projects in brief and your academic achievements, co-curricular
achievements, skills that you possess and make sure that you are
able to present them in the best possible manner.
Never mention the projects whose fundamentals you are not
clear about and always go through the projects that you have
JOB PROFILE mentioned in your resume.
Since the interviewers most of the times ask questions regarding
Core Electrical your project, so thoroughly go through the projects before
technical interviews.
For HR interview go through interview preparation strategies and
questions which are readily available over internet.

ROUNDS EXPERIENCE
Online Test In technical round questions were asked from transformer,
transient state network analysis and power generation and
distribution.
Technical interview First I was asked to explain in brief the process of power
generation, transmission and distribution.
The 2nd question asked was to determine the transient state
HR interview equation of current and voltage of a given RL network.
The last question of that round was to explain the effect of
supplying a DC voltage pulse to a transformer.
The 3rd round was HR interview in which I was asked to tell
something about myself and then I was asked a question about
an approximate calculation of volume of water contained within
the ocean and seas. I was provided with radius of earth as given
data.

TIPS
(1) Never mention the projects that you have not understood or
prepared properly.
(2) During interview never argue with or interrupt the
interviewers.
(3) Be polite and gentle during interviews.
(4) If you are not clear about the question asked ask for hints from
the interviewers. The interviewers would appreciate that.
(5) During technical interviews if a question is asked to be solved
explain the interviewers your approach and every step that you
do to reach the result or conclusion.

STIPEND (PM) PREPARATION STRATEGY

100000 Get in the habit of regularly doing code challenges. It’s a much
more effective way to prepare for the coding interview than trying
to cram a bunch of studying in before the big day.
It’s important to schedule time each day to attempt at least one
code challenge. You’ll get better at solving them, and you’ll also get
better at outlining your process and speaking to it.
JOB PROFILE A few great websites to help you practice code challenges in
Business Analyst varying degrees of difficulty include: LeetCode, geeks for geeks(200
important questions) and codechef.
Intern Non-cs students should also have knowledge about core cs
subjects.

ROUNDS EXPERIENCE
Online Test Online Test consisted of two business insights and one coding test
with video solution too.
There were two interviews conducted:-
Interview 1)First interview - This interview was taken by director , it was
based on yours interests. Firstly he enquired about favourite
subjects and asked some questions on it , like DBMS, os and DSA.
Technical Interview Then he gave me a scenario of a live situation in this job and asked
questions on it . We basically discussed about solutions on it. He
also asked some business related questions. This round lasted for
1 hour.
2) Second Interview - This interview was taken by Vice president of
Barclays. Firstly it was about introduction and projects. He asked
some technical questions regarding my project and went in deep.
He also asked about the difficulties I faced in that project. We also
had a discussion on my previous interns and my role in it and how
I handled tough situations. He then started to randomly ask some
HR questions and technical questions related to CS core.

TIPS
Try to have a project by start of 3rd year and even make a small
ppt on it . This will help to just revise your projects just before your
interview. And also write down some difficulties you have faced
during that project or previous interns(if any) in that ppt.
Try to tell the interviewer about all the methods to the
answer(efficient and non efficient too) they just want to know your
thought process.

100000 Till the end of my third semester, I had no idea where to start ? What
to do ? how to proceed ? and many more such questions. Untill now
I had done 2 machine learning projects and an internship on deep
learning. From the fourth semester onwards, I started solving questions
on HackerRank. I was able to do the medium questions but not the
hard ones. I simply had no clue on how to attack the questions. So
I took up a competitive programming course on Coding Ninjas and
JOB PROFILE finished it within 3 months by hook or by crook. After completion of
the course, I made it a goal to solve at least 5 difficult questions each
Business Analyst day. During this time, along with the college coursework, I also was
revising important topics from the previous semesters and my projects
periodically. I kept doing this everyday till I finally got the internship.

ROUNDS
EXPERIENCE
Online Test
First Interview : First he asked me questions related to my projects,
discussion about regression vs classification, tensorflow, scikitlearn,
Technical pandas and python libraries. Then he asked me about the Barclays
Interview RISES Values and examples of these values from my life. Next he asked
me a question on what would I do if a new product touted to be
successful failed. The situation was that a tap-to-go credit/debit card
HR Interview had been a big hit among the customers but a payment app for
smartwatches didn’t godown well with the customers. What could be
the reasons for the failure ? What could I do to fix it ? Would I scrap
the idea altogether ? or Would I proceed with improving the product ?
The next question he asked me was - What are the factors you would
consider while buying a new house ?

TIPS
1. Thoroughly practice DSA questions (mainly binary search and its
applications, merge sort, dynamic programming and graph traversals)
as many as you can.
2. If not confident, take up a competitive programming course with
Coding Ninjas or any other such institute.
3. Study formal language and automata theory, design and analysis
of algorithms, data structures and algorithms, database engineering,
operating systems, object oriented system design and data
communication attentively when taught in class.
4. Be thorough with questions on object oriented programming,

25000 I practiced coding from geeksforgeeks website. I searched for previous

how to crack the interview/online test of that company. Along with I revised
OOPS concept, Data structure and algorithms, DBMS and OS before appearing
for any interview.

JOB PROFILE

ROUNDS
EXPERIENCE
Online Test
It had only one technical round.

Technical In that round they asked me to rate myself first in SQL and DBMS. I rated myself
9/10.
Interview The interviewer asked me some basic DBMS questions and some SQL queries.
He asked me questions from almost every topic of Database management and
also asked to me solve some SQL queries by sharing his screen. Some of those
were tricky.
After that he asked me about my projects and I explained all of my projects
briefly to him.
There after he asked me whether I had any questions to ask or not to which I
replied with some questions about my role and work culture of the company.
He nicely explained all of them to me and the interview concluded.

TIPS
Practice easy and medium level coding questions from geeksforgeeks or
leetcode. Switch to hard questions only after finishing a good number of
medium level questions.
Always try to solve a question for a maximum of 10 minutes. After that read the
logic part only and then write the code yourself.
Never forget to dry run before submitting your solution. Check for base and
corner cases wherever necessary.
It is always a good practice to construct your own test case for every question
that you solve.
Be thorough with all the concepts of OOPS, data structure, algorithms, dbms
and os.

PREPARATION STRATEGY
STIPEND (PM) I prepared with the mindset of being able to answer any question interviewer
asks me about. To get better with problem solving, I did do a lot of competitive
80000 programming in my second year.
I had kept focus on certain subjects which I thought would be helpful during the
interviews. I learnt Java and C++ from various sources to be better with OOPs
concepts. Keeping a goal of solving atleast 5 questions a day, I practiced Leetcode
and gradually increased the bar to 10.
To get better with interview scenarios, I did mock interviews sessions on Pramp

JOB PROFILE and InterviewBit, also with 2 of my friends. I had also prepared puzzles from
GeeksForGeeks and InterviewBit.

Software Engineering EXPERIENCE

Intern The first technical interview was based on DSA, DBMS, OOPs and some questions
on my project:
From OOPs I was asked :
1. What is the difference between abstract class and interface?
2. Why do we need interface while we have abstract classes?
ROUNDS 3. Why do we need abstract classes while interface?
4. What are the 4 pillars of Object Oriented Programming? What are their
importance?
Online Test From DBMS I was asked:
1. The interviewer provided me two tables and asked me to compute the join of
the two tables.
Technical 2. What are the ACID properties and asked me to give examples of them.
About my project, I was asked :
interviews Why did I choose Node.js and not any other technology. The interviewer asked me
how does node.js work in the background to integrate those features, to which I
answered using concepts of Threads. I had hosted my database on Cloud , so she
asked me about the advantages of cloud computing.
From DSA I was asked:
1. Given a queue of integers. Remove all the leading zeroes
2. Find the height of a binary tree.
3. Given an array, divide it into 2 subsequences such that, the absolute difference
between their sums is the minimum. I provided my approach with brute force
recursion and the interviewer was satisfied with it and didn’t ask me the DP
solution approach.
In the second technical interview, I was asked about only one question: Design a
predictor for a T9 Keypad. I gave a trie-based approach to him with which he was
satisfied and asked me to add more features efficiently, like deletion and editing.
This discussion lasted about an hour in which the interviewer and I discussed about
various improvements on the time and space complexity aspects.

TIPS
For getting into software companies, the first requirement is problem solving, and
that gets better with Competitive Programming, where we have to solve a problem
within a particular time constraint.
Also have an idea about the core CS Subjects such as DBMS and OOPs, (OS is not
necessarily required in internship interviews but certainly provides an advantage ).
A project can be helpful but not to worry if you do not have one, most companies
do not expect candidates internship for internships to be having projects. But do
not copy projects. Be thorough with what you have done in the project, do not
bluff during the interviews and honestly say you don’t happen to know the answer
if in doubt.
Do not give half-hearted answers. Be focused on the goal and strive for it, and most
importantly, keep patience and do not rush into things.

Software Engineer Solving problems from GFG was constant and that I continued
Intern for a long time and I solved around 500 problems. Later I along
with my friends started solving problems in binarysearch platform
where we used to make a room and solve problems there and
discuss our approach. This helped me a lot.
ROUNDS I practiced mock interviews with my friends where we used
to take interviews of one another. Also I tried the interviewbit
Online Test problemset which was a great help in my preparation.

Interview EXPERIENCE
(technical & HR) Interview round 1(technical):
The interviewer was very cool. He asked questions from different
fields.
He started with my introduction, then discussed on my projects.
Here he asked to describe one of my projects and then started
asking about CSS, JavaScript and API.
He asked me how to send data from server to the client.
Then he asked me some OOP concept such as abstraction,
encapsulation with some examples.
He asked me the difference between the runtime and compile
time polymorphism. He then asked some questions from DBMS
such as indexing, lock and one SQL query.
At the end he asked one DSA problem which I was supposed to
code in my editor. This round lasted for around 30mins.

TIPS
Practice good DSA problems and participate in short contests as
much as possible as this will help you a lot in the online test and

TIPS
Understand time and space complexity well. It’s very important to solve
questions in efficient way and there’s a great deal of discussion with the
interviewers on above topics. Instead of blindly writing code, be gradual and
understand it well. Think Out Loud in the interviews, narrate you’re solution
approach and whatever you code. It’s very important to make the interviewer
understand your solution. If he doesn’t then there’s no meaning even if it’s
correct. Don’t directly jump to writing code, but have narrate your approach to
the interviewer first, ask questions about constraints, edge cases etc. It’s okay to
not get the most efficient solution in first attempt. Be gradual and build upon
your thoughts and inputs of the interviewer. If you know multiple approaches
to solve a question then tell all of them to interviewer with their relative pros
and cons. Be confident and do not worry, most interviewers are extremely

Try to get part in various online ML Competition on Analytics Vidhya

plus you will come across various complex codes in there.
JOB PROFILE For DSA - Leetcode+GFG for Learning, Codechef for Competition, Try

TIPS
Don’t try to fake anything in your resume. write as much as you have

it might bite you back in your process, even if you have done simple
projects mention that, because companies also know that you are

Don’t hide it or try to copy projects. Most Important - Do Not get

TIPS
1. Be strong in basics
2. For GD no special preparation is needed although many advice for it. In my
opinion just regular reading of an english newspaper is enough. try to connect
the topic to the current issues which you have read in news. Have a consistent
viewpoint throughout the GD and don’t contradict yourself. If you are
countering somebody in an GD then provide some relevant fact to strengthen
your point.
3.For interview try to narrow down the interviewers playing field. if you say that
i like physical metallurgy or mechanical metallurgy then they will have a wide
variety of question to ask you, but in iron making and steelmaking the number
of questions will be from a smaller pool hence can be prepared and anticipated.
4. Interviewers will try to outflank you but keeping the discussion on specialised
processes(like BOF route of steelmaking) can help prevent that.

For OT, I prepared by doing papers from India Bix. Solve at least 3-4 papers to gain
10000 confidence.
For GD, a lot of preparation is not required. Just brief yourself about current
happenings. In my case I was lucky since I was doing Deep learning and could
speak some technical terms about AI. Also do not confuse AI with automation.
For interview, we did not get much time. Interview was just 1hr after GD. However,
I had asked my seniors about expected questions previous night. Most of them
advised to go through my project work (in my case - design report of our vehicle),
JOB PROFILE iron carbon phase diagram.

Summer Intern EXPERIENCE

Technical:-
They asked mostly about my work in club (BMR).
Q1) Is your vehicle 4WD? Explain how it is different than 2WD.

ROUNDS Q2) What are differentials? Name different types. Which one did you select and
why?
Q3) Explain the procedure of shaft design
Online test Q4) Is CVT a non-negative drive or a positive drive?
Q5) What are fits and tolerances?
Q6) What is the importance of vibrational analysis? How to do them?
Group Discussion Q7) What procedure did you follow while designing your vehicle’s gearbox?
Q8) Which one is better Steel or Aluminium for drive train components?

Interview Q9) What challenges did you face while designing 4WD?
Q10) How do you check driver comfort?
( Technical + HR) Q11) what all softwares did your team use during design?
Q12) What is IPG carmaker?
I already did an internship during my 2nd year which helped me a lot. they asked
me about my contribution and experience. The panelists had no time to ask HR
questions. Answers to these can be found online.

TIPS
For OT, practice aptitude questions from India bix or any other website . Core
subjects have very less weightage and most of them are included in 2nd year
curriculum.
For GD, go through current affairs in steel, automotive, manufacturing industries
and also general topics like Artificial Intelligence.
For Interview, its complicated. If you have any good project/ are in a technical
club (related to mechanical). You need to divert the panel’s interest towards your
project/club work.
For juniors who are in any automotive club, don’t limit yourself to one subsystem ,
they do not care whether you are of transmission or brakes.
Also remember metal nomenclature in AISI or SAE system. DO NOT BLUFF ABOUT
ANY PROJECT. Put them in CV only if you are confident in it. There may be a chance
where the panelists get bored and then they will start asking questions from core
subjects like Thermodynamics, Production process and metallurgy. If you are not
confident with your project/ not done yet, go through thermodynamics (NPTEL
lectures) and iron-carbon phase diagram.
Ask questions at the end about steel, any achievements of Tata Steel.

I shall suggest what I did:
10,000/-
1. Since it is a core company you must have sound
knowledge in the core subjects. Try to have a detailed
knowledge in one or two subjects. Commanding the
core subjects would help in technical sections.
JOB PROFILE 2. For the general sections of OT you can try apps like
IndiaBIX and Pariksha.
Summer Intern-
Inspire 2021 3. Practice the previous year GATE papers.

ROUNDS EXPERIENCE
Online Test 1. In the PI they asked like :
what topic do you like the most?
What books did you follow?
Group Discussion So they basically try to make you comfortable first.
2. Then the questions were technical questions. I
Personal Interview answered Mine Ventilation to be my favourite topic and
they asked all the questions from that topic only. Some
of the questions were like:
What is ventilation survey?
Why it is done?
Why there should be a distance of 14m between the
upcast and downcast shaft?
3. There was no such specific HR round.

TIPS
Try to maintain a good CG. That is really important in my
opinion. CG of at least 8.5 will work.
Try to have good knowledge in core subjects like Mine
Dev, UCM, UMM, Mine Ventilation, Mine Surveying etc.
These are the most important core subjects.

implications of the subject.. As per the type of company one should focus
on subjects like in case of tata steel it was essential to cover up topics like
thermodynamic cycles , flow in pipes , Heat treatment processes , Iron carbon
phase diagram , production processes.

JOB PROFILE For aptitude one should try solving aptitude problems from online sites and one
must clearly focus on speed during the preparation.

Technical experience )
2.Thermodynamics - Rankine cycle (P-V diagram , T-S diagram , work done and

3.Ic engine- petrol engine vs diesel engine
HR Interview 4. Fluid mechanics - Basic concepts like viscosity effect , Laminar flow vs

5. Heat treatment processes

TIPS
From the initial days of the 3rd year ( during summer vacation) one should have

follow one simple principle ,’Everyday try to learn something new, however
small may be ‘.
One should try to improve his communication skill by simply initiating peer

important thing one should focus before cracking any internship.

Interview explanations like what is the oxygen blow rate in BOF, other technical
specifications like level of impurities at various stages were also asked
5. Questions related to my previous projects and experiences at RSP

TIPS
