    You are a mom. You live in Brgy. Aplaya, which is right next to Laguna de Bay. You have
    a 2-storey house, and the ground floor where your sari-sari store is situated already
    flooded. You wrapped your baby and went to the second floor, but the flood is fast rising
    and you are likely to get trapped. Your husband went to Barangay Hall, where they
    prepared boats, but he has not yet come back.
    1. Determine the hazards given in the situation and identify the possibleways to
    lessen the vulnerability of the exposed elements to hazard? Explain your answer.

    Possible Hazard on given situation are:


    - Electric outlets
    - Floating Scrap Metal(Roof or any Sharp metal)
    - Chemicals( Acids)
    - Locked Doors and Windows
    - Sewage hole
    - Trees
    - Rapid flooding
    When we are at home and in this situation, flooding can be really scary especially when
    your are with your kids, hoping that all you can get to safety. Electrical outlets is
    mention due to the fact that they are near to a Bay, when the power sources is not
    informed to shut it down, it can lead to electrocute the whole Family or even the
    rescuers. The electricity can be make its way to water due to the fact that it is a great
    conductor. While floating scrap metal can be a hazard to due to the fact that when you
    are already outside, the floating metal can struck into you and your family from the
    roofs or equipment of nearby citizen. I include the Chemicals like acids as it can be a
    hazard when it is not on a right place and get contact with the water you are in. If you
    would accidentally drink this flood water and chemical this could potentially put you
    and your son and daughters lives in danger. While locked Doors and Windows are added
    in the hazard list when you are supposed that your husband is not yet back with the
    boat, increasing of flood to 2nd floor can really put your life in danger . Locked Doors
    and windows can be difficult case for the rescuers and you to get in and out if it
    happens. While sewage hole can such you up or you could fall out due to the fact that
    when the flood level is high you cannot see what are below it. If you unluckily fall there
    to that hazard it could put you and your child in danger. Trees can be really dangerous
    too. It can fall into you or your house causing possible destruction of property or human
    casualties. Lets say that you are in your way to safety but unfortunately, the wind and
    rain got heavier and heavier causing the flood to rise and rapidly flow that could carry
    you away to your desire destination.

    Things to consider in reducing the vulnerability of the elements to a hazard


    ➢ First and foremost we can reduce the vulnerability of the whole family from being
    electrocuted by the electric outlet if we turn of this before space flood came up all
    the way .
    ➢ Floating scrap metal can be really dangerous as it can be unexpected to come to
    you, the best way to handle this is to clean your surrounding and securing this
    by tying it to a safe place
    ➢ Chemicals can cause indigestion or health related problems when you
    accidentally intake this with flood water. We can reduce the vulnerability of the
    family if we will put it where it will not get contact or seal it up with water
    ➢ Locked Door and Windows can trapped us in a room or house. We could not stay
    for longer in a house that will eventually be flooded in and out. Considering this
    if you are just waiting for the recue to come. It would be better if you want lock
    the doors and windows so the rescuers can easily open it from outside.
    ➢ Sewage hole can be avoided by knowing that it can lead to a serious injury when
    you fall into it so initiate to cover it with something that will not going to clogged
    or it will, also be helpful to put warning sign to this hazard.
    ➢ I know that trees are helpful to our environment, however when the tree is too
    big and poor structured from above and below, it can cause serious casualties to
    all of us. Cutting some of its branches can lower the chance possible injuries.
    ➢ Rapid flooding occur when the rain got heavier but the water cannot pass through
    water ways. Knowing this you must try to initiate in cleaning water ways in the
    area,

    Can the effects of hazard be avoided ?

    We can definitely lessen or avoid the effects of hazard. A proper awareness


    ,education, preparation , and prediction can lessen the effect of hazard especially those
    Natural Hazard. If we are assessing properly every possible hazard and evaluating the
    possible risk, it would greatly affect to lessen the impact of this hazards. If we couldn't
    avoid it in anyway from happening, maybe it will be the time to be prepared and take
    drastic measures so therefore we can lessen the effects of every hazard at home or
    anywhere around us. We should be informed to make improvement in every possible
    hazard like poor infrastructure to lessen or totally avoid the hazard. Having awareness
    ,knowledge, and preparedness can make a change in the possible impacts of hazard.
    We can say that knowing this hazard, we should try to prevent the possible event by
    evaluating the risk from happening for the first place.
