MODULE 2 - Introduction To Research - Technical and Operational Definitions
I- Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. differentiate between technical definition and operational definition
B. create their own technical and operational definition
C. participate actively in the discussion

A. Routine Activity (5 mins)

The teacher will employ the interactive game “Click”. When the teacher says
“Click!”, the students must stand-up immediately, and the last person to
stand-up will have to give one word he/she still remember from the previous
lesson, which is the Technical Terms used in Research.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation (5 mins)
The teacher will prepare a box or paper bag with 1-2 random objects
inside. One student will have to stand in front and pick one but do not let the
others to see what he picked.
The student must give three clues which states the feature and use of the
selected random object. Each clue must start with “I believe…”, and the class must
guess what is the random object inside.
Example:
Random object: Sponge
Clues:
I believe it is sometimes dry, sometimes wet.
I believe it can absorb water.
I believe it is used to wash the dishes.
On the other hand, this is the operational definition for Erythromycin for
the treatment of sore throat: The usual dosage for adults is 250 mg every 6 hours,
333 mg every 8 hours or 500 mg every 12 hours. Doses may be increased up to 4
g/day according to the severity of the infection.

COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENT
The class will be grouped into four. Each group will have to pick which of
the two objects they will present, and what definitions they will use (Technical or
operational). The class will be given an ample time to prepare and present.
