HBO Assignment:

Life Stories of Recent MBAs: Values and Ethical Challenges


The Stories and values of various persons are encapsulated as such:

1.       Monica Chi:

Belief: She grew up in a value-oriented household and grew up to be a woman of strong character
and moral values.

Values: She did think of herself as a perfect person but always was persistent to be a high achieving
individual. She was averse to complaining about her circumstances and would adapt to the various
challenges that were faced by her. She saw herself as being part of a larger community and
developed an empathic personality by witnessing the struggles of various persons first-hand. She
always looked out for her family.

Attitude: She was not motivated by money but wanted to part of something meaningful at work and
be a person who brings change. She has an individualist mindset and looks out for herself in adverse
conditions

2.       Ann Gilroy:

Values: She holds integrity and family values at her core. She is concerned with making a positive
impact on society and doesn’t wish to hurt anybody else on her path for personal gain because she
wants to leave an untarnished legacy.

Beliefs: She also has a deep sense of patriotism. Although she was raised in a household that taught
her about the values of equality among the genders her truth was challenged when she was in the
marine corps where she faced discrimination because of her gender.

Attitudes and emotions: She always treated her colleagues with the utmost respect and fulfilled her
duties to the best of her capabilities regardless of that fact. She was not concerned with personal
gratification but to set a brighter future for her future comrades.

3.       Jaime Irick:

Values: He is an outspoken individual who tries to be true to himself even in tough situations.

Beliefs: He credits his family members for imparting in him his core values such as integrity, respect
for others and empathy.

Attitude: He has a sense of optimism and strives hard to achieve the best possible result

4.       Sachin Jain:

Beliefs and Values: He values his friendships and places importance on loyalty.

Attitude and emotions: He cares about his duties and responsibilities to other persons. He places his
self-worth on his ability to be there for the people he cares about the most.

5.       Axel Mandl:

Beliefs and Values: He is not afraid to stand out and is true to his own self.
Attitude and emotions: He finds humour in all situations that life throws at him. He also values
awareness, balance and perspective. He is more focused on the journey of life than the destination
of death.

6.       Daniel Salvadori:

Values and Beliefs: He places importance on integrity and empathy. He believes that to be a good
leader one needs to connect with the people of the organization and understand their hopes,
dreams, ambitions and fears.

Attitude and emotions: He is very caring towards his family and always looks out for the people he
cares. He is deeply religious and holds his religion as his core identity which makes him what he is
today. If we look at his priorities, although being sincere toward his jobs, he would choose his
religion over his job if such situation arises.
