Bim Objects: Usage Manual

This document provides instructions for using pre-modeled insulating panel families from Huurre Ibérica in Revit projects. It describes how to load the families, configure curtain walls and sloped glazing, and address situations where panel widths do not divide lengths evenly. The families contain panel type, finish, and technical information. Special panels may need modeling to fit irregular dimensions. Direction of insertion affects panel arrangement.

INTRODUCTION

The Huurre Ibérica systems based on insulating and cold storage panels have been modelled and
parameterised as curtain wall panel families. This solution enables us to produce panel systems in a
semi-automatic manner without having to position the panels one by one.

This document includes a guide on how to use these panels in curtain wall systems and sloped
glazing.

Panel selection
Each particular panel has its own purpose. Table below allows the user to determine which is the one
that best fits the project needs.

Internal information about the families

The Huurre Ibérica families are modelled so that they contain extra information in addition to their
geometry. We can find the different types of finishings, the product technical sheet, thermal values
and others, such as the manufacturer's or supplier’s URL.

Selecting one of the panels (Important - select only one panel and not the curtain wall system) and
by clicking on Edit Type, we can check all this information.

USE OF REVIT FAMILIES IN A PROJECT

Loading the families

In order to model a curtain wall system or sloped glazing, we must first load the panels that are going
to be employed. This is done from the Insert tab by clicking on Insert/Load Family. Then, we need to
search in the directory for the file path of the downloded .rfa files and open them within the project.

Modelling curtain walls and sloped glazing

Both options can be accessed from Roof and Wall

option, varying only the wall or roof type to be
used. We must select the type of sloped glazing
or curtain wall accordingly.

We recommend the use of the curtain wall: single

(Curtain Wall). This curtain wall type comes with
a very simple configuration (without mullions and
transoms or a pre-defined grid for the system.
This will simplify the process since we don’t need
to delete anything in order to model our own
configuration.

> Curtain walls

Please note that Huurre Ibérica panels have predefined widths that can be checked in their type
properties: they are 1.0 or 1.15m depending ont he particular panel.
If we select the curtain wall and click on edit type, we will see that we can edit the layout of the
curtain grid. As vertical grid, we need to enter the panel width of the panel selected for the project.
For this purpose, we will use the “fixed distance” option. The horizontal grid corresponds to the panel
lengh which depends on each particular project.

Fitting Vertical Panels:

In case that the curtain wall length is not a multiple of the panel widths, the result will be as follows.

In such a case, the user needs to model a new panel

type after checking availability with the manufacturer.
Once created and loaded into the project, we will only
have to select those panels that are to be changed and
replace them with the new panel type. In order to select
a particular panel in the curtain wall system, we have to
place the cursor on the panel to be selected and click
on the SHIFT key on the keyboard and when its edges
change to blue we must click with the right button.
Once we have selected the panel, we can unblock it
by clicking on the drawing pins or by searching for the
following icon on the Modify tab.

We will then change its type of panel on the upper section of the properties list in the drop-down box.

In order to select a panel instead of the curtain wall system, we have to place the cursor on the relevant
panel and click on the TAB (Tabulator) key on the keyboard and when its edges change to blue we must
click with the left button on the mouse.
Once the panel is selected, we can unblock it by clicking on the drawing pins or by searching for the
unblocking tool (UP Command) on the Modify tab.

We will then change the type of panel on the drop-down box on the upper section of the properties list
by the new type.

Important notes about curtain walls

The way in which the panel is drawn (from left to right or the opposite) will affect the panel arrangement.
The following images show the different options for the same type of wall drawn from left to right and right
to left.

Furthermore, if we select the curtain wall (or certain panels) and press the space bar, we will apply a
symmetry to this wall or panels, as applicable.

Vertical Panels Horizontal Panels

We must select one of the panels as specified in the section Modelling Curtain Walls. When selected,
click on edit type and search for the corresponding parameter for the relevant type of joint within the
Visibility parameter grouping.

> Sloped glazings

This will be the roof type to be used when we wish to model the HUURRE panels for roof application.

Once we have drawn the roof, we will proceed in the same way as for walls. We have to edit the panel
type and load the panels we want to use. We then will set the “fixed distance” rule for Grid 1 and will
apply the width of the relevant panels.

As in the curtain wall case, if we do not use dimensions that are multiples of the wall width, we will have to
model a special panel in order to adapt it to the the sloped glazing system dimensions.

If we see that the panels have been inserted in the opposite direction, we will proceed to select all of
them. With the cursor on the system>tabulator>left click>right click>select panels>panels in host.

Unblock these and press the space bar.

APPLICATION OF COLOURS / MATERIALS TO THE PANELS

The panels of Huurre Ibérica are configured to be able to apply the material according to the color
chart. Depending on the material applied, we will be associating one finish color or another. HUURRE
color chart can be downloaded from the following link.
For the application of the different colors, from now on Revit materials, we must import them to our
project and then associate them with the selected panel.
The different materials have been created in an RVT file that will be used as a template or material
library. Within this template of materials we will find the 27 materials that make up the color chart for
the different available panels. The document only contains the materials with the colours of Huurre
and is named as follows: HUURRE_COLORES DE ACABADO.
In order to import the file, the two Revit files need to be opened (the materials template and the
project in which we want to apply these materials). Once opened, while in the project case study,
select the option Transfer project rules in the toolbar.
At this moment a dialog box will appear requesting us where and what we want to transfer it. We will
select the colour library-file and state that we only want to import the materials.

Each of these imported materials have a graphic configuration so that they are displayed with the
appropiate colour, and have some attributes that will allow us to obtain more information about the
finishing colour. In addition, we can access from the URL parameter to the colour chart mentioned
above.

BIM OBJECTS

In order to apply the materials to each panel, we need to select the type of panel to which we want
to apply a certain color. Then, we need to choose the “Finishing material” parameter and replace
the current material with any of the available list.

In case we want to apply two different colors to the same type of panel (Model and thickness), we
must double the type and create a new one to be able to apply different materials. We recommend
using the following taxonomy in the type name in order to differentiate them: Thickness_ FINISH
COLOR. We can see an example in the following image:

Once the corresponding materials have
been applied to the panels, it is advisable
to purge the model. Purge the model since
27 new materials have been loaded and
many of them may not be used. To perform
this purge we will go to the tab manage and
select the function Clean unused items
and we will select the materials in the list of
items to be purged. Please note that this
will eliminate any material that is not being
used in the model. Thus, if we do not want to
suppress other materials that can be used in
the immediate future, we will not perform the
purge until we use all the materials required
for the project.

The materials template also has a summary

table listing all the panels that are being
used for each colours and information about
the materials.

This table can be imported to our project in order to control the different panels and their finishing
materials through the option Insert views from file, which we will find in the Insert tab and in the Insert
from file function.
