SEGMENT I INTRODUCTION
Hello! there I’m so glad to be with you. I hope that you have a wonderful day. I’m
here again for English Learning buddy.
This is your teacher Josh to make sure that you will learn and we will enjoy our
English lesson together. Make sure you have your pen and paper ready because once
again we will explore the wonders of this universal language… So what are you
waiting for… Let’s get started..

Before we proceed let us have first our opening prayer…….

In your previous lessons, you learned about the conditionals in expressing


arguments; we have the first conditional, the second conditional and the third
conditional.
At the end of our lesson, you are expected to:

Yes she can do different types because of her ability and skills in communication.

Do you know her?


She is Marissa, the adopted daughter of Marites… she also learned the skills of
Marites in communication. In other words, communicative styles can be learned.

What is communicative style?


It is a form of language that the speaker uses which characterized
by the degree of formality.
What are types of communicative styles?
Can you identify the different communicative styles in a real-life situation?
The way you communicate has a big impact on how you get on with people and get
the things you want to. Good communication skills can help you avoid conflict and
at the same time solve problems. They are also important for making friends and
having healthy relationships. There are varied styles of communicating to others
depending on the purpose, and the person spoken to.
1. Intimate – Marked by warm friendship developing through long
association. It is a style among intimate members of a family or friends
that don’t need a complete language with clear articulation. It is
enough to use short utterances.
2. Casual – Marked by lack of high degree of interest or devotion. A form
of information sharing typically used in personal conversations with

friends or family members.


3. Conversational – Marked by informality.
4. Consultative – Marked by a high regard to the person spoken to. It is
used in some group discussion, regular conversation at school,
companies, trade, speech conversation, etc. It was the most operational
among other styles.
5. Frozen – Very set in its way and does not change. Does not allow for
interaction with others. It is the most solemn communicative style since
it’s usually used in a respectful situation.
6. Formal – A type of verbal presentation or document intended to share
information in which conforms to established professional rules,
standards and processes.

Effective communication is an important characteristic of strong and healthy


relationships. Its purpose is to help people to know the specific approach.

Speaking in tact;
 Earns respect
 Helps in dealing with difficult situations
 Avoid conflicts
 Shows character, maturity and professionalism and integrity
 Builds credibility

It is important to communicate appropriately to avoid conflict. Remember that
sometimes our words may misunderstood by other people. So, watch your word.

Directions: Read this situation
A parent was called by the adviser of her child because of academic
recognition in school. How do you think a teacher speak to the parent? The parent to
her child? and the parent to her friend? Write the possible dialogs in the comic strips
applying any style of communication.
