Lecture 11

The document provides statistical data about the life of light bulbs in hundreds of hours broken into ranges and calculates the mid-point, frequency, and frequency squared for each range. It then defines and provides an example of calculating mid-range, the arithmetic mean of the smallest and largest values in a data set.

Mid Range:

Mid range is the arithmetic mean of the smallest and largest value.

x 0+ x m
mid−range=
2

Where

X0 is the smallest observation

Xm is the largest observation

Mid range more or less lies in the middle of the data.

Example:

Find mid-range from the following data:

2,5,6,9,7,3,5,8,4,6,7,1,6,8,18,14,19,15,17,12,11,13
=1

= 19
