 About the Program -

Higher education is crucial for securing right kind of employment and to pursue further studies in

best available world class institutions within or outside India. Quality education of in general and higher

education in particular deserves high priority, to enable students to acquire knowledge, skill and training

in order to have a holistic and multidisciplinary education to develop all capacities of human beings-

intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional and moral in an integrated manner.

Sustained initiatives are required to reform the present higher education system for improving and

upgrading the academic resources, learning environments by raising the quality of teaching, standards of

achievements in learning outcomes across all undergraduate programs in science, humanities, commerce,

law and professional streams of higher education including computer science. Hence, to bring positive

changes and to make “Bharat” a Vishwa Guru, New National Education Policy (NEP-2020) was

accepted and approved by the Union Cabinet on 29th July 2020.

The National Education Policy (NEP) - 2020 aims to double the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in

higher education by 2025, from the current 26.3% to 50% and also to make India as a Knowledge Super

Power and Self Reliant Economy Country in the world. NEP 2020 aims to convert a single-stream HEIs

in a phased manner into multidisciplinary institutions.

In view of above context and aspiration of NEP 2020, Visvesvaraya Technological University

(VTU) envisions to emerge as model public university for holistic and multidisciplinary education in the

country. In line with this vision, Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi is offering four-year

Bachelor Degree in science/allied science.

 This program is designed to offer Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)/ B.Sc. Honors in a science

subjects such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Nano-Science (VIAT Muddenahalli).

However the knowledge gained by students through this programme will have a strong essence of skill

based and industry required topics from the Engineering Science subjects such as Electrical,

Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Computer Science along with emerging fields like Artificial

Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Data

Science and also to have social connect. Students will also be exposed to important topics related to

Social and Political Science, History, Law, Management, Innovation, Commerce, Sports, Yoga,

NSS/NCC. This course will certainly play a role of catalyst in preparations of civil service

examinations and any other competitive exams.

This program is designed to promote the ambience of a multidisciplinary research with strong

basics, in the campuses of engineering colleges.

Key Features –

▪ A sound exposure of all students to the fundamentals of scientific, mathematical and engineering

principles takes place in the first 3 semesters. Teaching of these core courses includes strong
components of laboratory demonstration and hands-on experimental work.

▪ After first 3 semesters the students opt for a specialization (Honors). The specializations on offer are:

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Nano Science (VIAT Muddenhalli).

▪ Addition to Science Subjects, Students will study skill based and industry required topics from the

Engineering Science subjects such as Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Computer Science
along with emerging fields like AI, IoT, Robotics, Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Data
Science.

▪ Student broadens his/her knowledge and skill by taking the courses from engineering disciplines.

▪ Well established laboratory facilities along with highly qualified faculty members of engineering

colleges are utilized to offer this programme.

▪ Students do a research project in the area of their specialization in third and fourth year of the course.

▪ Students will undergo two internships.

▪ Two research projects is Hallmark of this Bachelor of Science (Honors).

▪ Students who complete all the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree

have the option to study the Master of Science degree of one year in any University or he /she may join
integrated Ph.D. Programme.

▪ Students may opt for Minor Degree along with Four year B.Sc. Honors Program in any Emerging/Interested
subjects as per the University Norms.

Brief About Admissions - FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022-23

As per the Government Order No - ED 61 TEC 2022, Dated – 18/05/2022, colleges affiliated to VTU offering Four
years B.Sc. Honors program are permitted to fill all 60 seats through management at the college level only. Aspirants

Eligibility Criteria, Procedure, Terms and Conditions: -

1) Intake –

a) Total intake of the program is 60 seats.

b) These Sixty Seats are further classified as Type –I and Type – II
c) Type I and Type II seats are to be filled at the Institutes directly by strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by the
VTU and reservation policy.
d) KCET is not Mandatory for the Admissions.

 2) Eligibility Criteria:
i) The applicant seeking admissions should have passed 12th (10+2) standard examination or equivalent from
science stream or with minimum any 3 of the following subjects – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, Electronics, Statistics and Computer Science.

ii) All aspirants must score 45% or above aggregate marks in the 10+2 level exam.

iii) SC/ST/OBC candidates need to score 40% or above marks at the 10+2 level exam.

iv) Students from the State of Karnataka, other states and abroad are permitted to apply.

v) Applicant must have passed any of the following qualifying examinations; with English as one of thesubjects:

• The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of
Secondary Education and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
• Intermediate Science or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized
Board/University.
• Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National DefenseAcademy.
• General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced
(A) level with minimum passes of 2/3 subjects.

• High School Certificate Examination of Cambridge University

• International Baccalaureate Diploma Program with the minimum passes of 6 subjects (3HL and 3SL) with
24 points.
• Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the
Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

• Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with minimum fivesubjects.
• H.S.C. Vocational Examination
