HOW TO USE THIS MODULE
Before you start answering the module, I want you to
set aside other tasks that will disturb you while enjoying
the lessons. Read the simple instructions below to
successfully enjoy the objectives of this kit. Have fun!
1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions
indicated in every page of this module.
2. Write on your notebook or any writing pad the
concepts about the lessons. Writing enhances
learning that is important to develop and keep in
mind.
3. Perform all the provided activities in the module.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers.
5. Analyze conceptually the posttest and apply what
you have learned.
6. Enjoy studying!

This module was designed and written with you in
mind. It is here to help you understand Proper and
Common Nouns. The scope of this module permits it to be
used in many different learning situations. The language
used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students.
The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence
of the lesson. But the order in which you read them can
be changed to correspond with the textbook you are
now using.

The module is all about Proper and Common Nouns

After going through this module, you are expected to:


1. recognize the Nouns;
2. tell examples of Proper and Common Nouns;
3. identify a Proper Noun for the given Common
Noun; and
4. Use Proper and Common Nouns in a sentence

What is a noun? Take a look around you; everything
you see is a Noun! Yes! You’re right! From your slippers, to
your favorite toy, your Mom and Dad all of them are
nouns. But what is a noun? Let us have a review on what
you know about nouns!

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Proper and Common Nouns


A Noun is the name of a person, place or thing.
Proper Nouns give a specific name of a person,
place or thing. These nouns begin with a capital letter.

Common Nouns don’t give a specific name of a


person, place or thing. It doesn’t start with a capital
letter.

Activity 1
Objectives: Identify the nouns in each sentence.
Read the sentences. Underline the nouns that name
things. Circle the nouns that name places.
1. Many plants grow in the forest.

2. We saw evergreens in the mountains.
3. You can see a cactus in the desert.
4. What trees grow in your town?

Activity 2
Objective: Categorize the nouns in their
corresponding columns.

Read the passage. Write the nouns in their


corresponding columns.
Cara Max and Jack hiked up Mt. Makiling. They
saw trees insects and flowers along the way. For
lunch, they each had a sandwich a yogurt and a
drink. At the end of the hike, Max said I am tired!

Objective: Capitalize the proper nouns in the paragraph.
Sarah wrote a story but she forgot what she knows
about Proper Nouns! Can you help her? Correct her
sentences by writing a capital letter of proper nouns.

One day euhone and her Mom went to sm san
lazaro to buy toys and shoes. The store was having a big
sale every friday in january. Everything was fine until they
got lost! Euhone’s mom turn right at bambang street
instead of tayuman street. She called dad’s number and
ask for help. Luckily mom find the right street and we were
able to buy shoes and toys. We also bought some snacks
at pizza hut for my dad and little brother.
