Lesson Plan in Circles

The lesson plan describes teaching students about the basic terms of circles. It will divide the class into groups to do an activity where they identify terms by solving riddles in a crossword puzzle. This will be followed by a discussion of what a circle is and its key parts like the radius, diameter, chord, tangent, and secant. To conclude, students will practice identifying these terms in examples and illustrating a labeled circle themselves.

BASIC TERMS OF A CIRCLE
A circle is a plane figure wherein it consists of points with a fixed point called
the center. If a circle has center at C, then, it is called center C.
The segment from the center to an edge of the circle is called radius (radii -
plural). is a radius. All radii of the circle are congruent.

The segment passing the center is called the diameter. is the diameter.
The diameter is twice the radius.
The segment from one point on the edge of a circle to another edge is called
a chord. is a chord. The longest chord in a circle is the diameter.
The line that intersects the circle at exactly one point is called a tangent.
is a tangent.

The line that intersect the circle at two points is called a secant. is a
secant.
An arc is a part of a circle. AD is an arc. Half of the circle is called a
semicircle. BD is a semicircle. The minor arc is smaller than the semicircle. AB
is a minor arc. The major arc is bigger than the semicircle. AE is a major arc.
