Long time ago, there lived a well-
known Villalon family who happened to
have many friends from other places.

“Pelagia, some of our friends
would like to visit our place,” Pelagio
said.
“Really? When are they going to
come?” Pelagia inquired.
“Maybe next week, so we need to
prepare,” Pelagio responded.

So, in the following week, many
friends of this well-known family visited
the place. But they did not know the
certain direction going to the area.
“Where can we find the home of
Pelagio Villalon? This is quite a big
place!” Albert asked. “Why will you not
ask the people we could meet along the
way?” Ruth suggested.
“Exactly!” Albert responded.

On their way, they met Ningning, a
resident of the place.
“Good morning! May we know the
house of Pelagio?” Albert inquired.
“Good morning, too. Just walk
ahead and you will see a big balugo
tree. You will see the house of Pelagio
near that tree,” Ningning informed
them.

It was told that many different
species of trees grew abundantly in this
quiet and peaceful place.
Some of the trees were used as a
locator.
One of these was the extra ordinary
big balugo tree that grew near the
house of this well-known family.

Since then, every time people
visited and wanted to locate the well-
known family’s place some would say
“near the balugo tree”.
From then on, when the barangay
was established, the name Balugo was
used.

Ang Alamat ng Balugo
Noong unang panahon, may isang bantog na pamilya, ang pamilyang Villalon. Silay ay
may maraming mga kaibigan na galing sa iba’t ibang lugar. Gusto ng kanilang mga kaibigan
na bumisita sa kanila. Nasisiyahan naman ang pamilya, kaya’t ganun na laman ang kanilang
ginagawang paghahanda.
Sa kasagsagan ng kanilang paglakabay, hindi nila talos ang direksiyon ng daan patungo
sa bahay ng pamilyang Villalon.
“Saan kaya ang bahay ni Pelagio Villalon? Sobrang laki ng lugar na ito,” tanong ni Albert.
“Bakit hindi ka na lang kaya natin tanungin ang mga taong ating madadaan?” suhestiyon ni Ruth.
“Pwede!” wika ni Albert.
Sa kanilang paglalakad, nakita nila si Ningning, isang residente nang naturang lugar.
“Magandang umaga! Pwede ba naming malaman kung saan ang bahay ni Pelagio?” tanong
ni Albert.
“Magandang umaga din po. Ipagpatuloy niyo lang po ang paglalakad hanggang sa makakita
kayo ng isang malaking puno ng Balugo. Ang bahay ni Pelagio ay malapit sa punong iyon,” tugod
ni Ningning.
Sinasabi na maraming iba’t iabng uri ng kahoy na tumubo sa tahimik na payapang lugar
na ito. At ang iba ay ginagawang tanda ng lokasyon.
Isa rito ang pambihirang malaking kahoy, ang balugo, na tumubo malapit sa tirahan ng
tanyag na pamilyang Villalon.
Simula noon, sa tuwing may bibisita sa kanilang lugar, ginagamit na ring marka at pananda
ang kahoy na balugo upang matuntun ang hinahanap na bahay.
Buhat din doon, nang naitatag ang barangay, ang pangalang BALUGO ang ginamit.
