3 Use of the manual

T he present instruction manual shall be carefully preserved in a place


known to all and of easy access to all users of this machine.
Read and let any operator carefully read this manual in all its parts
before installation, use, maintenance or dismantling.
Always ascertain that the operator has perfectly understood these
instructions for use and the meaning of any sign/symbol shown on the
instrument.
Do not remove or damage the labels and the data plates.
The instrument is not supplied with an ON/OFF switch, so it is
immediately activated when power supply is applied.
If the instrument is used in applications with risks of damages to people,
machines or things, it is essential it is used together with auxiliary alarm
devices.
The user is responsible for checking, before use, the correct instrument
parameters setting, to avoid damages to people or things.

AEC TECHNOLOGY Srl is not responsible for damages, to people


or things, caused by tampering, by a wrong use or not in
compliance with the instrument characteristics.

4 Description

T he instrument MULTIPROG is a multicycle programmer that must be


connected to MULTISLAVE electronic cards and that allows to visualize,
monitor, set and modify the application process variables.

Keyboard

As shown in the figure, the keyboard of Multiprog has the following


buttons:
○ Keys ENTER and ESC.
ENTER allows to select an item of the menu or confirm a value.
ESC allows to exit a menu or cancel a selection.
○ Arrow keys ▲ ▼ ► ◄.
The arrow key ▲ allows to scroll upwards the menu items.
The arrow key ▼ allows to scroll downwards the menu items.
The arrow keys ► and ◄ allow to move the cursor on the left or
on the right.
To select a menu item, use the arrow keys ▲ or ▼ and scroll the list of
the available items. Multiprog underlines the item with a flashing cursor.
To select the underlined item press ENTER.
To go back to the menu or to the previous screen press ESC.

○ Keys of the Function and Numeric keyboard.


The function keys allow the modification of the functioning parameters:
MAN Functioning in Manual.
AUT Functioning in Automatic
OFF Off.
ALARM It activates or deactivates the alarm.
MENU It visualizes the Menu screen.
COPY It allows to copy all the parameters of a channel
on another channel or on all the channels.
MOD It allows to modify the parameters of a program in
progress.
F1 Function key.
F2 Function key.
DEL It allows to cancel the part of the cycle that is not
used anymore (from the cursor afterwards).

5 Multiprog Functioning

When the instrument is activated, the search of the connected channels is


executed. Each detected channel is represented by the symbol “ * ”, while
the non detected channels are represented by the symbol “ • ”.

Once the channels search is finished, the following screen is visualized:

The channels scroll cyclically on the display.


To block the sliding press arrow keys ▲ or ▼.
To select a channel to be visualized, use arrow keys ▲ and ▼ and scroll
the channels list.
To come back to cyclical sliding press ESC or the arrow key ► or ◄.
To activate or deactivate the alarm, press ALARM button.
Press the function button MENU to visualize the screen Menu.

5.1 Setting Cycles


Select this item to set the heat cycle.

The Multiprog allows to set and record up to 6 different cycles. The


operator can choose to confirm or modify the variables in the screen.
Select the desired program by pressing a numeric button from 1 to 6.
Press the arrow key ► to modify the chosen program.
Use the arrow keys to move from one variable to the other.
Each line of the screen is composed by a temperature °C, by a time
HH:MM and by a gradient °C/H of heating and cooling time.
To confirm un cycle, it must be formally corrected, that is, it must have an
initial temperature, a final temperature and each field must be filled in.
To cancel part of the heat cycle, from the cursor on, keep the button DEL
pressed.
Press ENTER to confirm the modifications or press ESC to exit and
cancel the modifications.

5.2 Cycle run


The menu CYCLE RUN allows to execute the following operations:

▫ modify the function FUNCT:


- choose if to turn the channel OFF or to make it work in MAN or AUT
mode using the relative function keys.
- in MAN mode it is possible to set the value of temperature to reach.
- in AUT mode it is possible to change the program.
▫ set the percentage value of tension V(%) on heating elements for each
active channel. Only two values can be set: 100% and 50%. Pressing
button 5 50% will automatically appear, while pressing whatever else
button 100% will appear.

Press ENTER to confirm the modification or press ESC to quit the menu
and cancel the modifications.

Il symbol “•” near the variable FUNCT advises that the program P1 in
progress for that channel (see chapter 5.5.5), or the value of tension V(%)
(see chapter 5.5.4) have been modified without confirmation with button
ENTER.

On the contrary the symbol “ # ” advises that the channel FUNCT (AUT-
MAN-OFF) or the number of the program to be executed in function AUT
have been modified without pressing button ENTER to confirm and
reprogram channels.

Attention: pressing button ENTER in this menu, only modified


channels (symbol “ # “ o “ • “) will be programmed.

5.3 Language Selection

It is possible to change the language of interface Multiprog-Operator to


allow its use in another country.
As shown in figure, selecting this item, a menu that lists the available
languages opens. The cursor flashes on the language in use. To change
the kind of language of Multiprog use arrow keys ▲ or ▼.

5.4 Setting
The operator has the possibility to change the max number of channels
connected to Multiprog .
Type the new number and press ENTER to confirm the modification or
press ESC to quit the menu and cancel modifications.

He also has the possibility to select 6 “standard” cycles set by


manufacturer. Use arrow keys ▲ or ▼ to move from one variable to the
other.
Press ENTER to confirm.

Press button F1 to cancel and go back to Menu screen .


Press F2 to cancel the 6 memorized programs and substitute them with
the 6 “standard” programs.

5.5 Examples of Cycles Setting

5.5.1 Automatic Cycle

Example:
prepare a piece for test with 4 heating elements and 4 thermocouples
(connect n.1 heating element and n.1 thermocouple for the channels 1, 2,
4, 6).
The cycle we want to execute is the following:

The screen visualizes the following information:

P = Nr. program to execute (max. 6 different programs)

°C = Max Temperature to reach.

HH:MM = Hours and minutes of permanence (insert “0” if you do


not use the hour).

°C/H = Gradient of heating/cooling time.

SP = Nr. of steps of the cycle (each step has two segments: a


ramp and a hold).

To move from one modifiable variable to the other use arrow keys.
To modify the value of the variable, press the button of the keyboard with
the figure of the numeric value to activate.
After having inserted the heat cycle data, press ENTER to write the new
values in Multiprog P1 memory and to go to the Main Menu screen.

Select the CYCLE RUN menu.


To scroll the items and visualize the screen use arrow keys ▲ or ▼.

The screen visualizes the following information:

CH = Channel number.

FUNCT = Channel functioning mode (AUT-MAN-OFF).

°C = Temperature to be reached in MAN mode.

V(%) = Percentage of tension applied to heating elements.


To move from one modifiable variable to the other use arrow keys.
The cursor lies in field FUNCT of channel 01.
Press button AUTO to change the variable and set channel 01 in
Automatic. Go to the following variable (°C) with the arrow key ►.
Press button 1 to select the Program Cycle 1 (previously written). Go to
the following variable (V(%)) with the arrow key ►.

Press buttons 5 to set 50%. In this case use only heating elements with a
tension value equal to the half of the output tension of the machine.

ATTENTION: check the tension output value and the max number of
heating elements for each output according to the kind of machine
used (see machine instruction manual).

Repeat the same operations with the same data for channels 02, 04, 06.
To speed up the operation it is possible to copy all the whole parameters
of a channel in another one using function COPY.
Move the cursor using arrow keys ► or ◄ on field FUNCT of the channel
in which you wish to copy the parameters. Press button COPY followed
by the number of the channel to copy.

Furthermore it is possible to copy all the parameters of a channel in all the


others.
Position the cursor on field FUNCT of the channel to copy. Press button
COPY followed by ENTER. All the parameters of all the channels will be
modified.
Press ENTER again to confirm the modifications or press ESC to quit the
menu and cancel the modifications.

In this example channels 03 and 05 are not used and so they must
remain switched off. When the cursor is on field FUNCT of the channel to
be switched off, press button OFF. The operation is not necessary if the
channel was already in OFF.

(connect n.1 heating element and n.1 thermocouple for the channels 1, 3,
5). The cycle we want

To speed up the operation it is possible to copy all the whole parameters


of a channel in another one using function COPY.
Move the cursor using arrow keys ► or ◄ on field FUNCT of the channel
in which you wish to copy the parameters. Press button COPY followed
by the number of the channel to copy. Furthermore it is possible to copy
all the parameters of a channel in all the others. Position the cursor on
field FUNCT of the channel to copy.
Press button COPY followed by ENTER.
All the parameters of all the channels will be modified.
Press ENTER again to confirm the modifications or press ESC to quit the
menu and cancel the modifications.

In this example channels 02, 04 and 06 are not used and so they must
remain switched off. When the cursor is on field FUNCT of the channel to
be switched off, press button OFF. The operation is not necessary if the
channel was already in OFF .

5.5.4 How to modify the value of current during an heat cycle

For example: during an heat cycle you are using two heating elements
connected to one output and for an anomaly an heating element burns.

Press function button MENU.


Use arrow keys ▲ or ▼ to select the CYCLE RUN menu.

Move the cursor using the arrow keys on field V(%) of the channel in
which you wish to modify the data (CH03).
Press button 5 to set 50%. In this case use only heating elements with a
value of tension equal to the half of the output tension of the machine.

Press ENTER to confirm le modifications or press ESC to quit the menu


and cancel the modifications.
If, after having modified the value of a channel, you wish to modify
another one, move the cursor using the arrow keys on field Vmax of the
channel to be modified.
Near FUNCT AUT of the channel just modified symbol “.” Will appear
until you press button ENTER to confirm the modified values.

5.5.5 How to modify a cycle in progress

Press function button MENU.


Use arrow keys ▲ or ▼ to select the CYCLE RUN menu.

The cycle set is not correct.


Check that every data have been inserted and that there are no
incomplete fields.

On the display the following writing appears:

ATTENTION
no active channel

There has been a damage on the communication or the cards switched


off or have been taken out from the rack.

During setting phase the following writing appears:

ERROR
no response
from channel 01

Channel 01 is not present, is damaged or off. Or

ERROR
uncorrect response
from channel 01

Il channel 01 is damaged.
