cited in the example)is given in the body
❖ Conclusion of the invitation is on a positive note as well as a reminder for confirmation(in the
eg.to confirm presence as a Judge)

Formal Replies are of -Acceptance or Regret- pertaining to the invitation received


★ Replies are written in third person
★ Acknowledgement for the invitation received is expressed in both the
replies(Acceptance/Regret)
★ In a reply of Acceptance the expression ‘will be there ‘ is written and ends on a positive note of
spending a good time together
★ In a reply of Regret the expression ‘regret to inform will not be able to attend’, along with the
reason is cited.It ends with wishing good luck for the event

A newspaper report is a brief factual account of some event / incident / occurrence that has
already taken place.
It is expected that the newspaper reporter / correspondent report the incident objectively, just
as he/she sees it without using colourful language or adding any of his own ideas /
interpretations.

NEWSPAPER REPORT-HEADLINE

❖ Newspaper Headlines should be clear and specific.


❖ It should tell the reader what the report / story is about.
❖ It should be in 5 – 10 words at the most and should be centre aligned.
❖ The headline should be a complete sentence or at least, imply a complete sentence.
❖ The use of articles and conjuctions should be avoided.

NEWSPAPER REPORT-BY-LINE

The by-line should follow the Headline on the next line. It should be centre-aligned just like the
Headline. It should comprise :
 Name of the reporter / correspondent
 Name of the newspaper he / she representing

NEWSPAPER REPORT - THE INTRO PARAGRAPH


The ‘Intro’ paragraph provides answers to all the ‘WH’ questions :
What happened? What could happen?
Who did it? Who did it happen to? Who else was involved?
Where did it happen? Where else will be impacted?
When did it happen? When is it going to happen?
Why did it happen? Why will your reader care?

NEWSPAPER REPORT - THE SECOND PARAGRAPH


The second paragraph of a newspaper report provides answers to the question ‘HOW’. The
report should give details of how the incident/event happened in a chronological order and in
a systematic manner. It could also carry the eye-witness account

Scholar Badge Ceremony

The Scholar Badge Ceremony was held on Friday, 11 October 20XX in the school auditorium
from 9:30 am onwards. The auditorium was appropriately decorated with flags and flowers
of the season. It was filled to capacity with parents who had come to experience the proud
moment of the achievements of their children. The Ceremony began with the ceremonial
lighting of the lamp.
This was accompanied by a melodious rendition of a Ganesh bhajan by the students. The
Ceremony began with the welcome of the chief guest, Mrs. Neena Venkat, Jt. Secy, Ministry
of HRD, Govt. of India. She was felicitated with a bouquet of flowers by the principal.
The cultural programme comprised dances, songs and skit presented by the students. The
chief guest, in her address, praised the participating students and congratulated the
meritorious students who had made it into the list of scholar badge awardees.
The award ceremony was conducted by the erudite Ms Kiran Shastri, PGT English. 218
students were decorated with scholar badges and 50 students were awarded badges for
exemplary contribution in the various co-curricular fields.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the principal. The parents
thanked the principal and the school
for motivating to the students to excel.
