7. Ben throws a ball into the air. The path of the ball can be modelled by the equation
h = 3t 2 + 6t + 2,
where t, in seconds, is the time from the moment the ball is thrown, and h, in metres,
is the height of the ball above the ground. Find the difference in height between the
ball at its highest point and at the point from which it is thrown.

19. There are ten stacks of coins. One of the stacks contains 10 identical counterfeit coins.
Each of the remaining nine stacks contains 10 genuine coins. All the genuine coins
are identical. The mass of a genuine coin is 5 g while the mass of a counterfeit coin is
4.4 g.
Charles does not know which stack contains counterfeit coins. He takes 1 coin from
Stack 1, 2 coins from Stack 2, 3 coins from Stack 3, and so on, until he takes 10 coins
from Stack 10. Then he puts all the coins on a weighing machine and finds that the
mass of all the coins is x g.
Find, in terms of x, which stack contains the counterfeit coins.
20. The following is a conversation between Isabelle and Joanne who met on a bus.
Isabelle: I have three children. Assuming that their ages are whole numbers, the
product of their ages is 288, and the sum of their ages is the bus number of
this bus that we are on.
Joanne: Of course I know the bus number, but I still don’t know their ages.
Isabelle: Oh, I forgot to tell you that two of my youngest children have the same age.
Joanne: Oh, now I know their ages.

21. There are 2015 workers, and 2015 switches numbered 1 to 2015.
The first worker turns on all the 2015 switches.
The second worker then turns off every switch with an even number, i.e. 2, 4, 6, …
The third worker then ‘reverses’ every third switch, i.e. if the switch is ‘on’, he will
turn it off; but if the switch is ‘off’, he will turn it on.
The fourth worker then ‘reverses’ every fourth switch, and so on until the 2015th
worker has ‘reversed’ the 2015th switch.
What is the switch with the largest number that will remain ‘on’ in the end?

25. If a triangle XYZ is such that XY2 = 74 cm2, YZ2 = 116 cm2 and XZ2 = 370 cm2, find
the area of the triangle. (Hint: 74 = 52 + 72; 116 = 42 + 102; 370 = 92 + 172; you can
use any other method.)
