Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds (Season 1) is based on a book written by

Gwenda Bond. The series draws inspiration from masters of sci-fi and horror
genres such as Stephen King, Stephen Spielberg, and John Carpenter, and
strongly influenced by classic horror films from the 1800’s such as A Nightmare
on Elm Street. The series is full of fun references to pop-culture phenomena like
Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, The Ghost Busters, and more. It is a sci-fi
horror-drama set in the early 1980s in Hawkins, Indiana, a tiny fictitious American
town. The plot revolves around a group of adolescents around whom bizarre
supernatural happenings begin to unfold as a result of an illegal science
experiment gone bad. This has created a schism between realms and released a
great evil force from another dimension known as the "Upside Down" by the
youngsters. One of the major character, mysteriously disappears early in Season
1, and the main protagonist, a mystery girl with telekinetic abilities, escapes from
a nearby secret facility and resolves to assist in finding him the lost character,
realizing she may have been unknowingly implicated in his abduction.

The story portrays complex emotions through the lives of young teenagers where
readers and viewers can relate to the childish problems; the solutions are
immature yet completely just. The very nature of the show has also allowed its
characters to grow. Throughout the show, every character is worked on, creating
a very precise world view for that particular character. This method of character
identification on-screen is uniquely satisfying. Their decisions and choices seem
justified; as the story progresses, viewers can create a stronger connection to the
characters and feel more involved in the story.

Stranger Things' underlying appeal resides in its investigation of relationships,

despite its pillow-clenching moments of fear and beautiful '80s nostalgia. There is
a special interaction between the masculine and the feminine, as well as themes
of paternity, maternity, and self-giving love. Finally, the movie's heart and
comedy save it from being just a sci-fi horror, overcoming sci-fi appeal to become
a moving drama about friendship, forgiveness, and the triumph of good over evil.
Stranger Things is fundamentally a study of love and relationships in all its
imperfection, as well as an investigation of the things that make us humans and
distinguish us from the evil forces, which are shown in the series as originating
from a place of total coldness.

In a nutshell, the movie/book is ultimately about learning and progress, which

includes making errors and learning from them.
