Lesson Plan Format Math

The document is a lesson plan for a 6th grade mathematics class on ratios and proportions. It includes the objective to define and identify ratios, solve proportions, and understand real-life applications. The plan outlines teacher and student activities including reviewing fractions, using examples of apples and baskets to introduce ratios, simplifying ratios like 3:6 to 1/2, and determining if ratios form a proportion by checking if their cross products are equal. Student participation and understanding of ratios and proportions are the goals.

A. Review Fraction Teacher

So what was our previous topic?

Very good, so as a recap, give the

equivalent Fractions of the following figure.
2/7

2/5

1/4

1/4

Yes, Teacher.

The GCF is 5
1/2 is the lowest term Teacher.

The GCF is 2
1/3 is the lowest term Teacher.

The GCF is 6
1/2 is the lowest term Teacher.
Very good!
Yes teacher!
Yesterday we also discussed how to simplify
fraction.

5/10
2/6

6/12

Very good! So is this clear to you class?

B. Establishing a purpose for Okay now take a look at this picture, What can you
the lesson see?

Apples and baskets teacher.

Very good! Now how many apples are

there?
There are 6 apples teacher.

Very Good Children, How about the Baskets? How

many baskets are there?
There are 2 baskets teacher.

There are 6 apples and 2 baskets. Which

of these two set has the higher quantity?
The apple teacher.

Very good.

How about this one?

9/18 5/10
What did you see?
Fractions teacher.

Very good! Are they equal to Each other?

Yes teacher.

Why they are equal to each other?

Because if we reduce them to lowest Term it
become equal: 1/2 and1/2

Very Good!

C. Presenting examples/ Based on the given example do you have None Teacher.
instances of the new lesson any Idea about what our topic for today?

Ok I have here a puzzle , in this puzzle you can

Find our topic for today. Who wants to
find it? Student1 will encircle the word ratio
Yes ________
Another one?
Student2 will encircle the word proportion

D. Discussing new concepts I will show you first a word problem.

pesos. Compare the pencils to the amount of each pesos. Compare the pencils to the amount of each
child. child.

Who wants to compare the pencils of Ronald?

Teacher 3 is to 10.
How about Ruby?
Teacher 6 is to 20.

Now based on what I present to you how

do you define the RATIO?
Ratio is the comparison of two Quantities or
numbers teacher.

Yes that’s nice. Ratio is the comparison

Of two or more quantities It can be written in two
ways
2:5 or 2/5

Colon(to) or fraction

Ok I have here another problem.

In miss Lakandula’s class ,there are 3

books For every 6 pupils.
Now give me the ratio of books to pupils
3:6 or 3/6 ma’am

Very good!
Can we simplify it? Yes! Teacher

How?
We simply divide the numerator and denominator to
3 and the answer is 1/2

Very good!_______
So we can say that 3/6 is equal to 1/2?
Yes! Teacher.

So if the two ratio are equal we called it

PROPORTION!
We can also find out if the two ratio are equal If
their cross product are equal.

Let’s have another example: 7:10 and 21/30 do a

ratio form a proportion?

Yes teacher the GCF is 3

In cross multiplication 7x30=210
And 10x21=210
Here’s another one.
8/9 and 2/3
Do the ratios form a proportion?
Why?
No teacher
Because their GCF and cross
product are not the same.

Very good! Because the gcf of the

numerator is 4
And the denominator is 3

Assessment)
H. Making Generalizations Let’s summarize our lesson for today!
and abstractions about the What is ratio?
lesson
Ratio is the comparison between
two numbers!
How about the proportion?

Proportion is an equation stating

that two ratios are equal!
Very good!
Ok class do you understand the ratio and
proportion??

Yes teacher.
We can also use ratio in baking, who loves to
eat cakes or cupcakes?
For examples the no. of egg to flour is 6 eggs to
12 cup
6:12 or 1/2

Now to know if you fully understand the ratio

and proportion I give you an activity.

I. Evaluating Learning Find the ratio and Proportion of each problem. The students will answer the following pictures
