First and foremost, the researchers are very thankful to the Almighty God who lives from

above for giving them strength and for showering them blessings to complete this research paper.

He enlightened their spirits to keep going and come with this idea and content. Without His

guidance, they may have not done or finished what they started. No words can measure or

describe their gratitude to Him. Thank you so much lord.

To their parents who never bothered them when it comes to house chores whenever they

are doing this project and who never fail to give them support emotionally and financially as they

go on to this journey and understand them in those times that they are a bit irritable, cannot do the

task that they usually do at home and for not going home early or on time when they are working

on this. The researchers wholeheartedly give their deepest appreciation to them. They are hoping

to pay all of their sacrifices someday.

letting us fulfill our dreams for being a student here.

The researchers would like to express their deep and sincere gratitude to their research

adviser, Mrs. Dedina H. Sanico for teaching us the right methods about doing a research paper

with a right guidance of having a good research paper. She initiated to share us knowledge on

how to conduct a research righteously even in this time of difficulties. She gave us not once,

twice, thrice, but more chances despite of the long due of passing the research paper. She never

ABSTRACT

This study used the modified Van Kaam by Moustakas (1996), in exploring and

describing the lived experiences of Nueva Estrella National High School Student-Athletes. five

student-athletes of the said school are the informants who shared their experiences in facing the

responsibility of an athlete and a student and the challenges they encountered.

The emergent themes derived from the study are (1) Attaining Dual Career: Leads to

distractions and confusions in class (2) Strategic Mind Set: A skill student-athletes developed due

to responsibilities (3) Encountering Lack of Time to Rest: A big challenge for young student-

athletes (4) Finding Ways to Survive: The thing student-athletes think about (5) Fatigue: A

terrifying effects that comes for being a student-athlete (6) Participating in Sports: A great way to

enhance one’s abilities (7) Believing in God and Confidence: Tools to stay motivated and keep

moving forward despite of difficulties (8) Sports Participation: Positively affects physical and

social aspects of the students. These eight core themes explained and described the experiences of

the student-athletes of Nueva Estrella National High School and the challenges that follows upon

doing their responsibilities. Based on the informants’ interviews in spite of the fact that sports has

a lot of benefits to offer the lack of time to rest is the most common problem faced.

The results of this study provide remedy and recommendations to the persons that are

involved which are the student-athletes, the parents and Teachers/Couches who would create

programs and make a better action that would help to solve these challenges that the student-

athletes faced. It may also give awareness for the other students of the said school about how hard

is it being a dual careered student.
