Part – C ( 15 Marks)

6.A permanent Magnet BLDC has a torque constant of 0.15Nm/A estimate the No load speed in
RPM when connected to a 48V DC supply with the armature resistance per phase is 0.12 ohm
and the voltage drop in the controller is 2V determine starting current and starting torque. The
DC current is 7.8 amps and the motor delivers 325 watts of mechanical power to load at 3000
rpm the motor is star connected has two phases on at any instance with a total of 2V drop
across two conductors in series. The voltage drop is assumed to be constant and frictional
torque is 0.046 Nm at the same speed. If the supply voltage is 48V DC determine the following
(i) Efficiency of the completed drive and the separate power loss component
due to voltage loss in switching circuits
(ii) Winding copper loss (iii) Friction loss (iv) Iron loss
7.A Three phase, 12 poles synchronous motor has a star-connected winding with 108 slots with
8 conductors per slot. The flux per pole is 0.25 Wb, sinusoidally distributed and the speed is 500
rpm. Determine the frequency, the emf induced per phase and line voltage. Assume full pitched
coil. (15)
8.A three phase 400V, 50 Hz, 4 pole star connected SyRM with negligible armature resistance
Xsd = 8 and Xsq = 2 for a load torque of 80 NM, calculate a) load angle b) the line current c)
Input power factor (15)
9.A single sided linear induction motor has 98 poles and its pole pitch is 50 cm. The motor is
used for propelling an electric vehicle. Determine the linear synchronous velocity and the
vehicle speed in Km per hour if the frequency is 50Hz and the slip is 0.25.

10. A 3 –phase, 16 pole synchronous motor has a star-connected winding with 144 slots with 10
conductors per slot. The flux per pole is 0.03 Wb, sinusoidal distributed and the speed is 375 rpm.
Determine the frequency, the phase and line emf. Assume full pitched coil. (15)
