B. Full definitions can be shortened by changing the relative clause into a participial
phrase. Shorten the full definitions below by removing the relative pronoun
(which, that, who) and by changing the verb into its –ing or –ed (-en) form or by
removing which, that, who is.
Example:
Pragmatics is the branch of linguistics that deals with the study of language use
rather than structure,
Shortened form: Pragmatics is the branch of linguistics dealing with the study of
