Group B: 2pm, Wednesday September 09, 2020 (selected students’ pin-up). Late assignments will not be
accepted.

TASK
Using the appropriate pencils, 30-60 and 45-45 triangles, and a t-square or parallel rule, complete the following
tasks on 2 sheets of vellum or translucent bond paper 24”x 18”. Upon completion do an overlay with sketch
paper 24”x18” and apply same using careful free hand for the Pavilion drawing. Free hand sketch
desired entourage (People, trees, shrubbery etc.) of choice to create context:

SHEET 1

1. Use the 1:50 scale and place the title block and borders format on the sheet. Use construction lines
for lines and lettering first and highlight them later when you finished the entire exercise. (see
Design Drawing by Francis D.K. Ching, p.387; Architectural Graphics by Francis D.K. Ching,
Chapter 9, for lettering).
2. Draw a set of 12 lines (10m long and 0.50m apart) consisting of 3 surface lines, 3 planar corner
lines, 3 spatial lines and 3 section lines on one half of the sheet. Use construction lines to define
start and end of the lines. Place a second set of 12 dashed lines below (see also Design Drawing by
Francis D.K. Ching, p.124-126 Architectural Graphics by Francis D.K. Ching, pg. 2-3 and ).
3. Place 8 points randomly on the other half of the sheet and connect them with surface lines. Place
another 8 points randomly and connect them with planar corner lines. Place a third set of 8
points and connect them with spatial lines.

SHEET 2

1. Plan your sheet and ensure that the layout of the individual elements islogical and
aesthetically pleasing.
2. Maintain the title block and borders format from the SHEET 1 exercise.
3. Draw the diagram given (square study) at 1:100 scale (maintaining itssize). Use an architect’s scale
to layout the overall dimensions of the largest square, which is 10m x 10m. Add the text as given.
Use the hierarchy of line weights asshown in the diagram. Strive for accuracy in the grid
construction (use a diagonal line to find intersections btw. horizontal and vertical lines), and
maintain consistency of line weight and a high level of craftsmanship. See Architectural Graphics
by Francis D.K. Ching, pg. 12-14, architectural scale rule)
4. Repeat the square drawing from the previous question. This time, however, rearrange and
redefine the three smaller squares in a composition of your choosing within the largest square.
Use line weights to add emphasis and character to your “design”.
5. With reference to exercise 5.4 in Design Drawing ; copy two of the three 3D drawings given at
twice their size. Use a hierarchy of line weights to differentiate spatial edges, planar corners
and surface lines. (see also Design Drawing, p.127)
6. Redraw (and letter) the floor plan and elevation given at 1:50 (twice their size). Use a hierarchy
of line weights to modulate the drawing.

For all tasks, try to maintain a high level of craftsmanship and consistency in the way the lines are
drawn, meet and end. DO NOT erase any construction lines.
