article and accomplish the Metacognitive Reading Report after.
Difficult Concepts
Guide Question: What concept did you find difficult to understand?
A. I found one concept that is difficult to understand and it is the contradiction between the
science and the religion. The question is, if they are both formation of the society, the why
do they need to counteract to each other? Religion has to give up to the more efficient way
of discovering and thinking that can be called scientific method. (Incillo, Bernabe,
Guiang, Galiste, Remular)
C. Last concept is all about the Implications of Darwin’s work. His evolution theory, many
latest theories have been entered and they also had their fair of positive and negative
impacts. On the other hand, evolution is very important to everyone, it is for better
understanding of the world. (Guiang, Bernabe, Incillo, Galiste, Remular)

D. The concept descent with modification. He defines it as the passing on of traits from parent
organisms to their offspring. Traits can be inherited but environmental factors also play an
important role. Although organisms are born with specific traits from their parents, they
can be influenced by their surroundings. (Galiste, Bernabe, Guiang, Incillo, Remular)
E. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. How an animal's physical features can be
shaped by the demands of recurrent problems posed by the environment. For example,
seals are more closely related to dogs than to dolphins, but seals and dolphins share several
physical features shaped by common problems of aquatic life. (Remular, Bernabe,
Guiang, Galiste, Incillo, Remular)
Learning Insights
Guide Questions: What insights did you gain in this activity?
A. Before reading this article, I never considered Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to be
credible because my belief as a Catholic is that Darwin's evolution is untrue and poorly
explained since I believe mostly in supernatural in which God created us as stated in the
book of Genesis and not by evolution of apes to humans. That was my belief since I had
not truly understood the significance of the concept of evolution.
However, after reading the article, I now understand that knowing science entails
transcending past ideas and employing scientific methods such as observation and
research. I can now be fair, examining Darwin's work without the influence of Catholic
belief but refused to abandon my faith to science itself. Given this, I now feel that the
evolution theory is correct because of the variety of ideas that arose after it and are being
used in ways that are unimaginable today. Furthermore, some of the questions I asked
myself are not answered in the book of Genesis, which leads me to conclude that the
theory of evolution is correct. The idea of evolution is powerful enough that
approximately half of these cases might be disputed yet the evidence remaining is very
convincing. There is so much in this universe that makes sense only in the perspective of
evolution theory. (Garnace)
However, after reading the article, made me understand that survival also includes rivalry
between predators and their preys, and that survival of a species implies that it can adapt

to its environment and win the struggle with other species struggling for survival.
Survival of the fittest is like, if someone has the bigger coping capability, they are longer
to live yet
if you have a weaker coping capability then you are more likely to die.(Garnace)
C. Before reading the article, I thought that self-medication is good for those who cannot
afford to have consultation with a doctor.
However, after reading the essay, I now see that personal usage of antibiotics, for
example, without a prescription is not a good idea. The germs will be able to survive,
develop, and advance to a stronger state thanks to the doctor's prescription. One that is
resistant to antibiotics and will render it useless. (Reyes)
D. Before reading the article, I thought that Charles Darwin was only focused in the
evolution theory.
However, after the reading, I know that he is a wonderful scientist, as evidenced by his
numerous scientific publications. He had a long list of accomplishments that he had made
during his life. His incredible mental abilities had made significant contributions to
botany, zoology, geology, and other sciences. Other scientists' lives are made up of his
particular works. I've come to know that what he's saying is true. Achieved had paved the
way for subsequent advances, and if not for his hypothesis, Mendelian genetics would not
have been conceivable. Genetics, the Human Genome Project, Genetic Engineering, and
a plethora of other fields will never be conceivable. Scientists regarded his movement as
a revolution because of his contributions to science. (Reyes)
E. Before reading the article, I thought that this article will all be about natural selection and
human evolution.
However, after reading the article, I now think that Darwin's theory had a significant
impact on science; I recognized that it explained not only how people evolved, but also
how an organism would react in a certain environment. As an example, the body's
immune system against medications might become overly resistant with repeated use.
The body adapts to the antibiotic, making it ineffective. Therefore, Darwin's theory
contributed immensely in today's science. (Torres)
F. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that Charles Darwin was an
ordinary scientist who contributed to the discovery of human evolution.

However, reading the article, I now realize that he is a great scientist who has altered the
world's perception of humanity, nature, and the numerous species of animals and plants
that exist. Because of his various scientific accomplishments throughout his lifetime, he
is regarded as a great scientist. Charles Darwin had a significant impact on how scientists
direct their work, which had previously been influenced by the unscientific belief in
creation. It now has a significant impact on everyone's lives. (Torres)
G. Before reading the article, I thought that Charles Darwin was only known scientist
because of his theory of evolution. Back when I was in elementary to secondary level at
school our science subjects and history, we always talked about Charles Darwin’s theory
in human evolution, they always say that we humans are directly evolved from apes,
However, after reading the article Charles Darwin was a very intelligent and a rational
man, he contributed many contributions in geology, zoology, and botany. His theory
assert firmly that we humans did evolve and part of the interrelated natural world along
with other organisms. He only presented that human beings and apes have a common
ancestor, he did not say that humans are directly from apes. (Arce)
I. Before reading the article, I thought that Darwin didn't see how an excessive use of
anti-toxin could make a microscopic organism safe.
However, after reading the article, I now think that Darwinian mentality implies that all
types of organisms originate and generate by the natural selection of small, learning
variants that increase a person's capacity to contend, endure, and reproduce. This
demonstrates that even before the rise of innovation, he was aware of the potentially
dangerous consequences that could arise in the future, such as the possibility of using this
small microorganism in bacteriological warfare. (Gasmen)

J. Before reading the article, I thought that Darwin was only interested in the development
idea.
However, after reading the article, I now learn that he contributed significantly to fossils,
awareness of earth's growth on a worldwide scale, and so on. (Rodrigo)
K. Before reading the article, I thought that science was completely opposed to religious
people's belief that we were created by God.
However, after reading the article, I believe that Charles Darwin contributed to science
by providing a better knowledge of how species change and survive. (Rodrigo)
Discussion Questions
Guide Question: What question would you want answers for? Or vague areas you want more
explanations about?
A. I have to question the effective of Darwin’s survival of the fittest in today’s world. We all
know that technology had also changed the world dramatically, so is it better suitable to
say that those “fittest” must also be the smartest? In today’s generation, the smartest,
which in the earth’s case are humans, can now manipulate everything, almost up to death.
If humans can take control of the earth, then is it not “ascension of the smartest”? (Bagni)
B. Why does the author does not give sufficient weight on religion as a competitor to the
origin of the animal species, he just focused on the paradigm shift, whilst religion is not
much defended? (Bagni)
C. Is it safe to say that we are as yet developing to other various species? In the event that no
for what reason did the development halted on us? (Bagni)
D. What holds true in Charles Darwin's Theory of evolution, and why is there not a
continuous transformation of the process? (Cabotage)

F. A dramatic change for human beliefs altering it from creation to evolution, and such
methodological view has allowed massive scientific advancement for the past 150 years.
But knowing the outline of Darwin’s life how did he end up discovering this theory?
(Cabotage)
G. How did Darwin change the way human views their place of nature? (Ronquillo)
H. How does the Evolutionary thinking explain the arms race waged by pathogens and hosts
that prevents either from being completely eliminated? (Ronquillo)
