Revisit the Infographics

Study the wordle below Each word represents an issue or a problem which was reported by teachers in
the field. Which of the words do you recognize as a problem? Draw a CIRLCLE around five words
that you have also identified as problems in teaching-learning.

Participate and Assist

What five problems have you identified from the words that you have encircled? Make a statement.
Write in the space below.

The problems I identified are:

1. Modules – This refers to an instructional unit that focuses on a particular topic. In today’s
scenario or case, module is one of the best instructional unit to reach the feasibility of
education even though of the pandemic. However, most students do not rely upon the usage or
the essence of module because it does not have any social interaction to the teacher and their
classmates that could give a better or excellent quality of education.
2. Poverty – Most of students in different schools or universities are poor or lack of resources in
acquiring a good education. Somewhat, there are public schools that offers an attainable
education for poor students.
3. Equipment – This matter of problem is often to the teachers that are optimistic of delivering
excellent learning to their students. Inadequate equipment could result an ineffective teaching
of a particular subject. Also, lack of instructional materials and facilities in teaching and
learning could result an unattainable good quality of education for students. Perhaps, students
will be bored or attempt absenteeism because of these factors.
4. Ventilation – A classroom with ventilation implies consistent teaching and learning progress.
Otherwise, it will cause an uncomfortable atmosphere for the students to learn and cope their
studies inside of the classroom. So, this is one of the common problems of a teacher in doing
some teaching.
5. Comprehension – Each one of us has a different pace in learning a particular course or
subject, the same thing as for students. However, there are students that have a low
comprehension or pace on one or more various subjects. With this kind of disabilities, teacher
get a problem in handling such this scenario.

Notice
What have you noticed in the problem identified above? Can there be more than one solution to the
problem? Explain.
Indeed. There are many different ways for improving one’s comprehension, for example, that are
proven and tested in action research conducted by many teachers and professors with various content
about diagnosing teaching-learning problems, especially for students with low comprehension.

Analyze
Let us try to look into the following scenarios in the daily life of a teacher. This scenario might also be
similar to the class you have observed and noticed.
Scenario A: Miss Fely is a grade four teacher in a typical elementary school. She has forty learners in her
class. One half of them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. She has been repeating
the same science lesson for two weeks, yet no progress was observed. This situation has been bothering
Miss Fely.

 Can you identify, Miss Fely’s problem?

The 50% of her students did not grasp the idea of vertebrates and invertebrates in which I
suppose, it is because her students did not give full attention of what has been taught by Miss
Fely. Additionally, those 50% of the students’ population are not inclined to the science
subjects. Maybe they are inclined in something or in other subject like they can give their full
attention in learning.
 Can you find a solution to solve her problem? Give your two suggestions.
A. She does not have to give assessments all the time for her to seek development of her
students. Sometimes, she needs to give students a witty and fun discussion or activity that
will catch the students’ attention. So that, she will not be bother of what are the problems
of her students.
B. She has to give her full attention to those 20 students or half of the students’ population
that have low understanding about science. Maybe she has to conduct seating arrangement.
She has to moved 20 students in front bench so that she can monitor them well and for
them to clearly see and understand what is written or discuss in front.
 What solution can solve Miss Fely’s problem?
Implement a group activity or partner activity where Miss Fely will pair with the smart student
the student who can’t keep up very well in class or discussion.
How?
Thru this solution the other half of her class who can’t keep up with the discussion will
understand well now because their partner or groupmates will help, inspire and cheer them.
Are they matched with the problem?
Yes, they are matched with the said problem, because we didn’t give solution to a problem if it
can’t solve it. What’s the sense of planning this solution if it can’t applicable to the problem?

Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his learners come from
families that are disrupted, either with single parents or with their guardians who stand only as parents.
They are deprived of the necessary food, clothing and shelter.

 Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class of sir Ryan?
A. Because of the communities’ deprivation of the necessary food, clothing and shelter,
students will think they have to get a job to earn money for their necessities rather than
learning from their school. So, this is one of the most probable teaching-learning problems
that Mr. Ryan will encounter.
B. Perhaps, students will not give their full attention throughout the class because they did not
take a breakfast or something to eat. Maybe, they are sad and just stares at the windows
thinking why their family are disrupted.
 Can you propose a solution to solve one of the problems that you have identified?
Mr. Ryan should make an activity that is fun and exciting so that, his students perhaps, forget
their problems and despairs in life. Also, he has to save his extra salary for him to spend
buying foods that is nutritious for the children or students when snack break time come. So
that, his class will have a full stomach that is enough for the students to give full attention for
absorption of learning.

Reflect
After reading the two scenarios given above, how would identifying problematic situations and finding
solutions to these problems help you to become a better teacher?
Through identifying problematic situations and finding solutions to these problems help me to
become a better teacher because I know now what to do if ever I will encounter this problem in future.
Thru this it will be easy to me now to identify and know if there are problems in the classroom and I will
be able to think and give solution to these. Also, I will be able to control the situation inside the
classroom, I will be the one who will implement a solution.
Write Action Research Prompts
Using any one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts that follow:
OBSERVE:
What problematic situation prevails in the classroom?
The problematic situation prevails in the classroom is comprehension. Students have a difficulty
in understanding the topic especially in translating mathematical sentence into a mathematical equation.
Aside from the fact that they think Mathematics is a boring subject, they are having a hard time to
understand the topics of it. Comprehension of the students in understanding the topic is the problematic
situation I observe so far even now that students are in modular.
REFLECT:
What changes do you want to achieve?
The changes I want to achieve is to change students’ perception of Mathematics as a boring
subject by showing them what are the essentials of this subject in our daily lives.
PLAN:
What strategies will you use to improve the students?
I should think and create more motivational activities and strategies that will persuade students to
listen and focus in discussion. I should also teach enthusiastically, full of energy and have a good vibe so
that my students will also feel the same. Due to pandemic, some students especially those high school and
elementary students who are modular today, I should talk to the parents or their guardians to guide them
well and focus their attention to my students learning.
ACT:
What would be the title of your Action Research should you conduct the study?
“Analysis of the Characteristics of the Modular Modality as Medium for Students
to Learn the Mathematics Subject in the New Normal”
Add: Solutions/Actions
I will conduct a survey by distributing a checklist-questionnaire with 28 item which will measure
the characteristics of the Modular Modality as Medium in the New Normal of the chosen students.
Check for Mastery

Problematic Situations Probable Solutions/Actions

1. Connectivity for On – line learning A. Rearrange classroom setting
F, teachers can do modular learning or
remote learning so that those with
connectivity problem, they will be
assessed still.
2. Disruptive Classroom behavior B. Maximize use of varied instructional
A, rearranging the classroom setting from materials
ventilation to furniture and board displays
positions would be a factor to solve this
problem.
3. Poor interest and motivation C. Regular parent – teachers circles
D, students will be motivated when there
is reward for the task they can
accomplish.
4. Parental non – involvement D. Use of rewards
C, teacher is the molder of a learner in
school setting while parent is in the home
setting therefore regular basis for the
parents to know about how their learners
are doing in school should be known from
their teachers so that the parents can
scaffold in their homes.
5. At risk – students E. Group studies and Study Buddies
G, reading should be a living beacon for
every learner and that’s why students
should be practiced and given reading
exercises to make them full and it is
according to John Dewey.
F. Use of Flexible Learning
G. Silent Reading Exercises
