Materials: A. Copper Sulfate

The document describes the crystallization of copper sulfate. First, 35.4 grams of copper sulfate was weighed and dissolved in 35 ml of warm water. This mixture was then transferred to an evaporating dish and placed above 300 ml of boiling water. Crystals began to form on the sides of the evaporating dish after 3 minutes. The crystallization was complete after 15 minutes of heating. The process yielded copper sulfate crystals and 5 ml of impure water as a byproduct.

MATERIALS:

A. Copper Sulfate
 Beaker
 Alcohol lamp
 Tripod
 Scoopula
 Graduated cylinder
 Wire gauze
 Thermometer
 Evaporating dish
 Double beam balance

Here are the initiatives of our group. First, what we did was to weigh the evaporating dish in
double beam balance to find out what the correct amount of copper sulfate was the exact grams
of the evaporating dish. So, the exact amount of copper sulfate is 35.4 grams. Because we
subtracted the weight of the evaporating dish to the obtained final dimension. When we found
out the right amount of copper sulfate, we mixed it with 35 ml of warm water and stirred until it
dissolved.
While we were weighing the copper sulfate, our group members heated the water for the mixture
at the same time as heating 300 ml of water where the mixture of copper sulfate and water would
be place on the top of the boiling water amounting 300 ml.
Here is the process we did in melting copper sulfate, Transferring the copper sulfate to
the containing vessel (beaker). Second, putting heated water in the copper sulfate. Third,
transferring the mixture in evaporating dish. And lastly, put it in the heat. After 3 minutes, there
was already crystallize on the side of the evaporating dish. Again 13 minutes later it had a similar
to meat as it boiled. After 15 minutes, it was completely removed from the boiling water.

Result and Discussion

Guides for Results and Discussion:

1. State your observations with regards to the process of crystallization and recrystallization
Based on my observation the crystallization process takes it to hot water and that is where the so
-called crystallization begins as in copper sulfate it is placed on the top of boiling water. While
recrystallization from the prefix re which means again where a compound is repeated by the
process and it will reshape just like in naphthalene where it undergoes the process of
recrystallization.
2. Describe the time duration of each process.

Minute (s) Degree Celsius Minute (s) Degree Celsius

1 50 ° 11 87
2 60 ° 12 88
3 65 ° 13 88
4 70 14 88
5 75 15 89
6 77 16 91
7 79 17 92
8 80 18 93
9 83 19 95
10 85 20 95

Describe the following of the produced outputs:

A. Appearance (all physical features)

Copper Sulfate from powdered form at first. Many processes were performed until the
latter became crystal form.
Powdered form Mixed with water Crystallization

B. Odor (if possible)

4. Give the impurities that are present after the crystallization and recrystallization process
In the crystallization process the impurities we get are the waters obtained after the
crystallization process. From 35 ml mixture 5 ml impurities were obtained5. State your reactions
and/or realizations after yielding the products.
