TAFE organizational documents plus ICT Industry standards and the North Metro TAFE Style
guide. 
The articles, web links and portfolio activities analysed and completed across the semester
will provide a basis for the information in your report.

8. Report Purpose: The purpose of this report is
a) to demonstrate your understanding of ethics, Intellectual property and privacy in the
context of ICT environments where you may be expected to analyse relevant legislation and
standards and contribute to improving the policies and procedures used in industry. As an
aspiring ICT professional this report should document both your knowledge of ICT industry
standards and how you may communicate IP, ethics and privacy related processes and
procedures.
b) to provide a recommendation for your key industry on a possible improvement to ethics
and privacy policy documents.
9. Remember: a well written report should be able to be read as a stand alone document
by a third party who has no knowedge of your learning resources, and make sense.

11. Please note that a requirement of this unit is that you contribute to improvements in Code of
Ethics and Privacy Policy documents in the ICT Industry. Your industry lecturer will be
considered the relevant ICT Industry representative for the purposes of this report; your
suggestions for improvement may be forwarded by them to the relevant ICT body.
12. Therefore, your submission of this report also constitutes permission for your lecturer to pass
extracted information, with appropriate attribution, on to an Industry body.
1. Create a Microsoft Word document called <sid> AT2 IP-E-P Report.docx where
<sid> is your student ID, based on the NM TAFE Report template provided in this
Assessment section.
a. access the North Metro TAFE Style Guide in this Assessment section and check
your use of font and colors specified for headings and page content are correctly
followed.
include a Front cover with the Report Title "AT2: Applying IP, ethics and privacy in
the ICT Industry", your name, plus the full name of the Qualification you are studying
b. an automatic Table of Contents (TOC) on the second page
c. a footer including an automatic page number and your Student ID
d. add Heading 1 level headings of: Introduction, Importance of standards, Role of
industry bodies, Role of legislation, Communication and review processes,
Recommendation for Ethics, Recommendation for Privacy Policy, Conclusion and
References. Note sub-headings should be in Heading 2 style.
NB: the Front cover, TOC, Introduction, Conclusion & References should all be on separate
pages 
2. Write an Introduction explaining what your report is about, under the relevant
heading. (refer to the Report Purpose above the Instructions)
3. Under the heading: Importance of standards provide:
a) a general explanation of why standards are important for society and industry to
function smoothly.
b) Then, add a sub-heading of IT industry and Ethics, IP and Privacy and explain
why these areas in particular need to have clearly defined standards that can be
applied to the IT industry.
c) Include examples of where poor standards in each of these three areas have
undermined confidence or caused problems in the IT industry.
Make sure these examples are relevant to the particular area of IT that you are aspiring to
work in, once graduated.
4. The next main heading should be Role of Industry bodies. 
a) In this section start with a general explanation of how industry
associations/societies/collectives help to set standards for industry.
b) Then under a sub-heading of Peak bodies for ICT Industry outline the key bodies
that are contributing to ethics, IP and privacy standards for the area of the ICT
Industry that your Diploma is specialising in. There should be at least two industry
bodies that you provide detailed information on. Explain who these bodies represent
and how. Explain their role in settings standards for your industry area. 
c) Provide at least one example of how they have actively contributed to
improvements in ethical standards / protection of Privacy and or Intellectual Property
in the IT industry.
5. Next add a heading of Role of Legislation.
a) Explain generally how Acts and their supporting regulations provide a framework
for the standards the ICT industry needs to uphold.
b) Then under a sub-heading of IP, ethics, Privacy legislation outline what the main
Acts and Regulations relevant to these areas are.
c) Make sure to identify both relevant Federal and West Australian legislation!
6. Under the Communication heading, explain
a) the main processes used by Industry bodies you have looked at and IT
organisations more generally, to effectively communicate new or updated ethics, IP
and Privacy policies to their members/employees.
b) Also reflect on the importance of distributing and communicating any revisions of
organisational/industry policies effectively.
c) Include an explanation of how you could actively participate in the relevant IT
industry bodies and IT organisations (if you were an employee) to provide
suggestions or feedback on relevant policies and procedures
7. Under the Recommendation for Ethics heading a) analyse the Code of Ethics /
Values / Standards for one of the Industry bodies you have already detailed. Outline
what it covers and how it is upheld.
b) consider its relevance to industry and the group's membership and
c) make at least one recommendation about a possible improvement to the
Code. The recommendation may relate to the actual Code content, to how it is applied by the
body, or to how it is communicated to members.
d) Include with your recommendation a suggested method for i) communicating your
recommendation to the relevant industry body and ii) how feedback for your
suggestion could be gathered and reviewed by that body.
8. For Recommendation for Privacy Policy a) analyse the published Privacy Policy for
one of the Industry bodies you have already detailed. It does not have to be the same
body as used for Instruction 7.
b) explain what the policy covers and how it is applied. Consider its relevance and/or
effectiveness to upholding privacy for membership and/or the wider public,
c) make at least one recommendation about a possible improvement to the
Policy. The recommendation may relate to the Policy content, to how it is applied, or to how
it is communicated.
d) Include with your recommendation a suggested method for i) communicating your
recommendation to the relevant industry body/personnel and ii) how feedback for
your suggestion could be gathered and reviewed by that body
9. Finish with a Conclusion at the end that sums up the main areas discussed in your
report, with emphasis on recommendations you have made, on its own page.
10. Include a Reference section listing all web sites or documents you have taken
information from for writing this report. Remember to include the sources for your
examples. Please use APA referencing (you may use an automatic APA generator).
11. Proof read your finished Report to check and correct your spelling/grammar and
formatting to meet the standards required by this assessment.
The entire Report should be 8-10 pages in length. Remember that 5 pages will be taken up by
the cover, TOC, intro, conclusion and references,
 NOTE: Upload your report, once completed, in the Attach File area below and remember to
[Submit]
