Consumer Decision Making Task
Consumer Decision Making Task
Evaluate yourself as a consumer/customer of a (1) Starbucks and (2) mobile phone. Compare
and contrast your behavior when purchasing these two products in terms of:
The ways of gathering information about the product I need to purchase between the two
products, which are the Starbucks and the mobile phone. When buying at Starbucks, of
course, I am purchasing my favorite drink or pastries, which is what I ordered always, do when
it comes to coffee, frappe, or pastries. Then when I taste or try it, and I didn’t like it or I’m not
that satisfied. I would ask a friend or family member, what they can recommend for me that I
would like. Also, sometimes I try their best seller and it turns out I love it. While in mobile
phones, of course, I would go to the expert that can find me an affordable the same time my
wanted phone, in short, a perfect phone for me. I am not that good at picking a good phone,
so I would prefer to ask for help when it comes to the phone.
2. The values that are being considered in the purchase of each product.
Different values are being considered when purchasing a Starbucks, mobile phone. At
Starbucks, I appreciate their employees and how they handle the customers, which is the
greeting, excellent service, genuine smile, and of course their friendly spirit. Then when it
comes to the product that I purchase, I as well appreciate the taste of it. So, I agreed with the
price because the quality of the drink is good, also their pastries. As for me, I am not that
eating a lot, I am the picky type of person when it comes to food, but when purchasing at
Starbucks, I always finished everything I ordered because it is good. When it comes to mobile
phones, of course, everything is on our phone, it is like your life is there, that is why when it
comes to caring, my phone is one of my priorities. When going outside, I always think first if
my phone is safe. I need to ensure it won’t fall, get wet, or get lost.
While mobile phone is a product purchase that is a high-involvement product purchase. High-
involvement product purchase, because the product or brand of mobile phone that I should
buy is needed a deeper evaluation and a long time to decide which is the good purchase. It is
extensive decision-making where it may experience cognitive dissonance, high costs of goods,
and evaluation of many brands.
4. Factors (that are being considered when deciding on buying the above products).
5. Personal traits, and factors that affect your decision when making the purchase
decision.
The personality of a person has an impact on his purchasing habits. A music lover would
cheerfully spend money on musical instruments among other things. As for me, I am a when you
buy, I buy type of person, too. So, my sisters love coffee, they buy it every day, that’s why I was
influenced by them to buy too, that is why now I love coffee as well.
Also, an individual's work has a substantial impact on his or her purchasing decision. The
products and brands that an individual chooses for himself or herself are directly influenced by
the nature of his or her employment. As for me, I am still a student, but I got some income
sometimes that is why I can buy all I want, but whenever I spend everything, my decision in
making a purchase, changes. For example, I bought a bag online yesterday, then I crave coffee
and pastries today, but my money is not enough to buy coffee and pastry. So, I might buy coffee
only, or a pastry only on that day.
