CBTO PROFILE & WORK

Preamble

The preamble to the CBTO Constitution as has been registered with the Register of NGOs Reads

We, the members,

AWARE and CONCERNED that there are numerous capacity, operational and skills’ gaps that
face individuals who are involved in development work in Tanzania.

The challenge gaps are in terms of the individual development actors who are supposed to adhere
to polices, laws and regulations governing the sector/thematic area in which they operate not being
able to do so due to lack of capacity and technical support (or mentoring), understanding of the
laws, regulations and technics needed in their specific field of work

Also being aware that these development actors can have an impact on the national development
discourse of Tanzania if their capacity is enhanced.

DO hereby SOLEMNLY resolve to form a non-governmental organization in Tanzania styled

Capacity Building Tanzania Organization (CBTO) and ADOPT this Constitution for the same.

Approach

Since there is no organization which is sole dedicated to helping the small and emerging NGOs
we have for the last one year formed a loose e-group were we deliberate issues and challenges that
the small and emerging CSO/NGOs face. We use this forum to deliberate the issues and offer
expert advice to the NGOs. We also offer NGO specify support at a very nominal fee.

Number of associate

We currently have a total of 200 individual CSOs and networks of CSOs that are our associates on
this loose network. We are registered with the Registrar of NGOs to perform the above stated
tasks.

N: B It should be noted that we use the terms CSOs and NGO interchangeably because the larger
portion of the emerging CSOs in Tanzania are NGOs and that most operate under the NGO Act
No.24 of 2002 as amended in 2019.
