1. Why is it necessary that when you write a narrative, you should have a clear thesis statement?

 In writing a narrative text, it is essential that writers or authors should write a concise and
clear thesis statement. A clear and concise thesis statement provides a framework and
specific focus for writers to write their narratives in an organized manner. Furthermore, it
gives the readers clear information on the content and context of the text. While in most
type of essays, a thesis statement states the main idea of the essay, thesis statements in
narrative essay introduces the action in the first paragraph. Nevertheless, thesis statement
should serve its role of providing the context of the narrative as a whole.

SUNSETS BY THE BAY: A Travel Story to Dipolog City

We all have been to a certain place that has a very special place in our hearts. With treasured core
memories that we will forever keep. The feeling of nostalgia that creeps our senses whenever we
remember the place. Some may have been to their special places more occasionally while some may have
been to that place only once. Nevertheless, it is not about how many times we went but how were the
memories were created and continuously kept.
Travelling to different places has been thrilling for me. I love the sound of the engine, the breeze
from the window of the vehicle, the rocky terrains we may pass through, and the smell of coffee in the
stop buys. But most probably, the travel that I will never forget was when I came to Dipolog City,
Zamboanga del Norte. It was the farthest place I have been to, and never did I think that from the
northernmost province in the country, I’d be able to reach one of the southernmost provinces in the
Philippines.
It was February of the year 2017, me and some of my teachers went to attend a month-long event.
From Cagayan, we rode the bus from Tuguegarao City to Manila. Travelling to Zamboanga took few
days. From Manila, we rode a ferry ship from Manila Port to Cagayan de Oro. It was actually my first
ride on a ferry ship, and it felt surreal being in the middle of the sea. Within the three-day travel by sea, it
was always the ship deck that I always go to. Feeling the fresh sea breeze, it felt liberating. We reached
Cagayan de Oro on the third night and rode a bus to Misamis.
It was an overnight travel by land until we reached a port
where the bus needed to ride a cargo ship to Zamboanga.
Another few hours of travel and we have finally reached
Dipolog City.
The moment I stepped foot on Dipolog grounds, it felt
so different. Like being in a trance or having travelled through
a portal. I really felt the difference in the atmosphere and even the gust of the wind smells like salt- the
sea is near.
And yes! The place was a whole lot beautiful. I enjoyed the night life and I have interacted with
the people there and one thing I have observed, they do not usually cook for dinner. They order from fast
food restaurants. During our stay there, we also went to the Dipolog City Gym, as well as their City Hall
to attend some events. We also enjoyed walking down Dipolog Highways where there were street dance
competitions. But the place I have always love there is the Dipolog Boulevard. It extends to few
kilometers by the bay walk and it is there you can see many people from different walks of life. There
were couples, and then there are the singles. People across ages and social status. Or even just those
“titas” who loved to do Zumba in the morning. Walking while seeing these people made me realize that
there is a place possible where people can just at least pause, breathe, and feel the world regardless of
status, age, and differences.
It was always the sunsets of Dipolog that I have always loved. It felt amazing as how the horizon
swallows the bright of the sun. People like me would just sit by the seawall, while listening to the
crashing waves and watching the sun set. Never have I seen such beauty in my life.
Aside from the Dipolog Boulevard, the people
there became close to my heart, too. The smiles of the
habal-habal riders who would gently ask us where we
want to go. Or even the bright laugh of the tuna vendor
in the market. Even the welcoming gestures of the
tricycle drivers with their unusual tricycles with
reclining seats.
These are the things that I keep in my heart. It
was not just about the sunsets by the bay, but it was of
how I felt so welcomed and honored to step into the
place I never thought I could go to.
During our last weeks, we never let the chance slip of
being able to visit the very popular Dakak Park and Beach
Resort in the neighboring City of Dapitan-the same city where
Dr. Jose Rizal was exiled. All I can say is that the Beach was
breathtakingly beautiful. It was my first time to go to a beach
resort and I was lucky enough that the place I went to for the
first time was a famous one. Although we did not stay for long
as we did not have reservations and we really needed to go back
to our quarters to prepare our stuffs.
Few days after and it was time to go home. We rode via Cebu Pacific airlines and again, it was
my first travel by air, too.
Fortunate enough, I have experienced a lot of first-times in our travel to Dipolog. Not just those
first-times on things but most of all, I have kept the beautiful sceneries of Dipolog in my mind and the
people there who were so warm and welcoming have I treasured deep within my core. Surely when given
another chance, I’d like to visit Dipolog again and watch the sunsets by the bay.
