Sri Natana Gopala Nayaki Swamigal

1. “Jothi of Madurai” Sriman Natana Gopala Nayaki Swamigal who is also celebrated as

“Thirtheenth Alwar” by people of Madurai was born in 1843 at Madurai.

2. Contemporary to Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsa and Vadalur Ramalinga Adigal (Vallalar),

Swamigal’ s brindavanam is situated at Kathakinaru on way to Alagar Koil from Madurai.

3. He composed and sung keertans, namavalis, prabandhams and poems like Gita Govindam in

Sourashtram and Tamil languages and propagated Bhakthi Marga among people.

4. Impressed by his inordinate love to Lord Renganadhar, Jeeyar Swamigal of Srirangam accorded

him the title “Natana Gopala Nayaki” and that became his name ever.

5. In the year of 1887, When U. Ve. Swaminatha Iyer was publishing tamil books, Nayaki swamigal

has published books of tamil kirtan released by Chennai University Tamil Department Head –

Komalapuram Rajagopala Pillai.
