1. Find the all first and second derivatives of z = x2 sin(2x + 3y).

2. Find and classify the stationary points of

a) f ( x, y) = x (3 − x2 − y2 );

b) f ( x, y) = x3 + xy + y2 .

3. An aquarium with rectangular sides and bottom (but no top) must hold
0.3645m3 . Find the dimensions for the aquarium that minimises the amount of
glass needed if

a) all the panes are the same thickness;

b) the bottom must be three times thicker than the walls.

4. The perimeter of the shape below is 6m. Find the dimensions that maximise its
