Fusing Offset Image METIS

This technical bulletin provides troubleshooting steps for an issue with cold fusing offset. The causes are identified as an excessive amount of toner, insufficient fusing temperature, or external environmental conditions like cool temperatures or rough paper surfaces. The solution is a 5-step procedure that involves adjusting several printer settings like coverage control photo values, resolution setting, and toner limit values. It also notes that adjusting the plain paper or B&W fusing temperature settings may be needed if color changes are not acceptable to the customer.

SYMPTOM
Cold fusing offset

CAUSE
1. Excessive amount of toner on the image
2. Insufficient fusing temperature
3. External environmental conditions such as cool temperatures or a rough paper surface

SOLUTION
Do the following procedure.

Note: First update to the latest package firmware, after you do this procedure the density of
colored areas (especially halftone areas) can appear lighter. If you set the
following SPs to values lower than those shown in the table, this change in image
density will be more noticeable.

PROCEDURE

For the Copier function:

1. Set the following SPs (Coverage Ctrl: Photo) to the values shown.
SP No. SP title Default SET TO:
SP4-931-001 Copy: Full Color 1 240 200
SP4-931-002 Copy: Full Color 2 260 200

For the Printer function:

2. Set SP1-102-001 to a value of “0”.

3rd time: Set SP1-102-01 to “2”.
4th time: Set SP1-102-01 to “3”.
5th time: Set SP1-102-01 to “4”.

Note: You do not need to set SP1-102-001 #5~9 (Text mode), as the symptom does not occur
with text mode.

5. Turn the main power switch OFF/ON.

Important: Do the following if the color change is not acceptable to the customer.

temperature in SP mode.

humidity of the external environment changes.
