DEPARTHENT oF E>UCATION OFFICE OF THe REGIONAL onEcroR DeHED DepEd Bicol’s learning recovery plan underway to address learning gaps caused by the pandemic Legazpi City ~ To boldly address the leaming loss brought about by the pandemic to Bicolano learners, the Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol has started crating is teaming Recovery Plan (LRP) in February this year focusing on literacy and numeracy in Grades 1-3, DepEd Bicol Director Gilbert Sadsad explained that the crafting of DepEd Bicol's Learning Recovery Plan dubbed as RAISE: R5 Learning Recovery Pian (Recovering for academig achievement by Improving instruction through Sustainable Evidence-based leaming Programs) was conceptualized early this year to help the leamers catch up and accelerate their learning after two years of learning disruption due to COVID19. Director Sadsed added that the main goal of the crafting ofthe said LRP is not only to bring all leamers back to schoo! but to organize effective remedial learning, support learners" well being, train teachers, fil digital divides and equip the young leamers with the skils that they need to learn, which are the key factors to help recover the learning lose during the Pandemic. More focus will be given to the literacy and numeracy skils of the leamers, which have been highly affected by lockdowns and self-learning approach employed during the pandemic. “As we transition towards partial to in-person instruction, the Regional Office and all the 13 Division Offices must be prepared to confront the emerging challenges in our respective school communities. Admittedly, many of our students are now off-track due. ‘their inaccessibility to full leaming opportunities. Because of instructional limitations for the past two school years, we have only focused on the most essential learning ‘competencies and overlooked other remaining competencies, thus leaving our learners even more challenged,” Director Sadsad further elaborated. DepEd Bicol started conceptualizing the RAISE: R5 Leaming Recovery Plan as early as February this year by organizing the Division LRP Core Teams composed of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) chiefs, leaming area supervisors, public Schools distict supervisors, senior education program specialists (SPEC) in Monitoring and Evaluation, and selected school heads. They worked closely with the Curriculum and Learning Management Division of the Regional Office. in partnership with ABC#: ‘Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines, who engaged the division team members in a series of workshops to formulate their Shared Vision, SMART Goals and the three- year Learning Recovery Plans. After going through rigid critiquing, the Division LRP is now being finalized by the Schools Division Office LRP Core Teams. ‘Some of the activities being considered by DepEd Bicol in the implementation of the LRP include the development of eight-week curriculum for Mother Tongue, Filipino and English for Grades 1-3 that will focus on the least learned competencies: alignment of intervention materials in literacy and numeracy to the learners’ needs; enhancement of teachers skills In teaching reading and numeracy, and implementation of innovative Programs, projects and activities that aim to accelerate learning recovery.
