IND 600, Lab 3
IND 600, Lab 3
You must attend the labs based on your schedule in RAMSS. You cannot attend the labs of the
other sections. The steps of this lab have been written in the following parts. Complete this file
and Answer the questions. Then, upload the file (Microsoft Word file or PDF file) on D2L by
Feb. 9, 12:00 pm.
1. Download "Lab 3" (PDF file), and "Model 03-01" (Arena file) via D2L (Lab 3).
2. Read "Lab 3" (PDF file). When you read, try those descriptions and options in an Arena file.
3. Open "Model 03-01". Run the model. What is the result? (Average Number Out)?
Answer:
Average Number Out = 5
4. If "Part Arrives to System" has Random (Expo) with value = 10, what is the result? (Average
Number Out)?
Answer:
Average Number Out = 4
5. If "Drilling Center" has Normal Delay type, instead of Triangular, what is the result? (Average
Number Out)?
Answer:
Average Number Out = 5 (when “Part Arrives to System” has Random (Expo) with value = 5)
Average Number Out = 4 (when “Part Arrives to System” has Random (Expo) with value = 10)
6. Delete the connection between "Drilling Center" and "Part Leaves System" and build the
connection again.
7. What are "data modules" in Arena? Use an example to describe your answer.
1
Answer:
We use Data modules to define the characteristics of various process elements, like entities,
resources and queues. We can set up variables and other types of numerical values and
expressions that pertain to the whole model. Icons for data modules look like little spreadsheets
in the Project Bar. For example, if we click on Entity data module from Basic Process in Project
Bar, we can see that we have defined an entity with name Part as shown in figure below:
In above figure, we can define multiple entities along with the information provided for them and
this information will be the characteristics of that unique product.
8. After running the Arena file, some files will be created in the folder. What are these files?
Provide some descriptions.
Answer:
1. P file (program file)
2. OUT file (SIMAN output report file)
3. OPW file (model components file)
4. ACCDB file (Microsoft Access Database file)
5. DSN file (Data Source Name file)
9. In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of Microsoft Excel and Arena for
simulation? Describe your answer.
Answer:
