Mobile Switching Center Server

The Mobile Switching Center Server (MSC-S) provides control of high-capacity switching in mobile networks. It is available as a native or virtualized solution and utilizes highly integrated hardware for the smallest footprint and lowest power consumption. The MSC-S Blade Cluster allows for ultra-high capacity of over 15 million subscribers in two cabinets and can scale easily. It reduces power consumption by up to 60% and operation and maintenance costs by up to 45%.

Mobile Switching Center Server

The Mobile Switching Center Server (MSC-S) provides control of high-capacity

switching in mobile circuit core networks. It is available as a native MSC-S or as a
virtualized MSC-S, (vMSC-S).

The MSC-S on BSP platform has the smallest footprint and lowest power consumption
on the market. The vMSC-S takes the step into the Telco Cloud area.

Blade Cluster
The MSC-S Blade Cluster is a key component of our successful mobile softswitching
solution. This provides ultra-high capacity – supporting over 15 million subscribers with
only two, single-depth cabinets. It also cuts the footprint by up to 90 percent.

With Blade Cluster you can easily scale server capacity in line with future traffic
increases and changing business needs. Node availability is also increased, allowing
operation and maintenance at any time without disturbing traffic and therefore calls in
the network. Blade Cluster can also be introduced in an MSC pool, dramatically
increasing network-level redundancy.

With Blade Cluster, you can reduce server power-consumption by up to 60 percent,

making our solution – already the most power-efficient solution on the market – even
more cost effective.
And, as network design using Blade Cluster requires fewer nodes, operation and
maintenance costs can be reduced by up to 45 percent.

Improve performance and efficiency

MSC-S is scalable, reliable and offers proven telecom-grade in-service performance.

It utilizes highly integrated hardware to ensure the smallest equipment footprint and
lowest power consumption on the market. OPEX is further cut through centralized
control and distributed switching, which reduces both operation and maintenance
requirements.

Through efficient circuit-core network design, Ericsson's well-proven MSC-S pool*

functionality contributes to MSC-S capacity gains by up to 25 percent, while
substantially improving network-level redundancy.

*In a pooled network, several MSC servers work together to handle the total traffic load
in the network and balance the peak load in individual servers during peak traffic hours.

Market offerings
Customer situation
- Defend top line
- Evolve the business
- Reduce costs

Ericsson’s Mobile Switching Center Server (MSC-S)provides control of high-capacity

switching in mobile circuit-core networks for operators who need powerful and reliable
servers to control services and switching. To keep OPEX low these servers also need to
be both operationally and cost efficient.

TheMSC-S meets these challenges with its outstanding in-service-performance and the
smallest footprint and lowest power consumption on the market. It is available as a dual
blade or blade cluster configuration.

Ericsson's offering
- Centralized control
- Ultra-high capacity
- Wide range of services
- Best in class availability
- A green product

The product supports all ETSI, ANSI and TTC (WCDMA) standards and a wide range of
standardized protocols, including RANAP, BSSAP, N-ISUP, SIGTRAN, BICC, MAP,
CAP, INAP, SIP, SIP-I and GCP.

Proof points
Over 300 operators in about 175 countries use our mobile switching solutions to serve
over 2,500 million subscribers. Our MSC-S offers efficient and centralized control of the
distributed switching the media gateway provides for mobile networks. This ensures
flexible, cost-effective network design and a smooth evolution towards Voice over LTE
(VoLTE).
