Ans. GNU Image Manipulation Program is free and powerful open source image editing tool that provides
retouching of photos, authoring of photos and composition of photos. GIMP is a multi-platform photo
manipulation tool.

Ans. Traditional analog image editing is known as photo retouching, using tools such as an airbrush to
modify photographs, or editing illustrations with any traditional art medium.

Q.9 How we can prepare images for web?

Step 1: To prepare image for the web, you first need to reduce the image to a better width and height
for web according to the scale.

Step 2: In File menu → select Export As...

In the JPEG Save Dialog, you can opt for GIMP defaults which reduce the size quite a bit,
without hurting the visual quality of the image.

If you would like to make it smaller still, change the compression level by moving the
“Quality” slider down. You can see the quality of the image changing.

Q.10 What do you understand by Layers?


Ans. Layers are transparent sheets virtually stacked one on top of the other. You can see through
transparent areas of a layer to the layers below.
Layers are wonderful tools, especially to create collages or to delete various portions of an image.
