1) The Lateral Motion of A Ship Moving With Constant Velocity Is Given by

This document is a homework assignment for a robust control systems course that was handed out on October 30th, 2008 and due on November 6th, 2008. It contains two problems: 1) finding the transfer function from rudder to heading angle of a ship with constant velocity and accounting for parametric uncertainty, and 2) deriving the robust stability condition for an additive uncertainty representation.

AE 582 Robust Control in Aerospace Systems

Homework 4
Handed out: October 30th , 2008
Due: November 6th, 2008

1) The lateral motion of a ship moving with constant velocity is given by

ψ(s )
i. Find the transfer function from the rudder to the heading angle G( s ) =
δ( s )
ii. Assume that there is 60% uncertainty on the coefficients of the s term of the
numerator and s3 term of the denominator. Find a weighting function W such
that the “multiplicative uncertainty” represents the effect of the parametric
uncertainties on these coefficients as closely as possible.

2) Derive the “Robust Stability” condition for “additive uncertainty” representation.
